AMD 3700x with 470x

Hello everyone,

Looking to buy the 3700x but deciding between x470 (Hero VII) or X570.

My preference is the X470 as it's high end and the starting X570 boards are even more expensive as we all know by now.

Shops here are offering a free bios flash for Ryzen 3000 when ordering a motherboard with the 3700X , so a Hero VII might not be needed as I initially choose that one because an old ryzen cpu is not needed to flash it.

I've been searching through the internet and haven't really found an in depth review comparing x470 boards with 3200 ram to the X570 with 3600 ram.

My graphics card will be the 2070 super from Nvidia. Haven't 100% decided for sure yet.

Any thoughts?

I posted a test that was brief in the X570 motherboard thread. The difference was trivial between a B450 & X570.
They only tested gaming and something else.
I would assume a pcie4 storage drive would be different but sounds like you are like me and not looking for faster storage.

Am not. X570 prices are ridiculous high if you want to have a good board. Would've expected some reviews comparing both extensively to see if it's worth it. Right now I think most are leaning to X470 or less, while some others say that X570 is better.

Hope the reviews come soon for both.

I'm in the same boat. I have been on the fence between a x470 and x570. There are not many reviews yet of the x570 boards. The chipset cooling fan concerns me. Those little fans tend to be incredibly noisy. Two reviews of X570 board on TPU don't mention the cooling fan at all. One review of the x570 Taichi on Tom's says it is annoying and needs to be turned down in the BIOS. I have seen some scattered comments from users saying the fans are loud enough to be bothersome.

This definitely has me leaning towards a higher end x470 instead. I don't have any local shops that can do the bios flash for me, so I may have to go with one that has the flashback functionality.

From what I've seen so far the difference between X570x , 3600C16 and 3700X is not worth the extra price tag.

Correct me if I'm wrong here.

I'm also someone who is hesitant to buy the absolute latest version of something without giving it time to be thoroughly vetted by users. When the price is so high, it just makes sense to buy a slightly less bleeding edge version since you know it will still be quite good tech for some time to come.

If reviews end up universally glowing it may be worth it to drop the extra money, but that seems to be pretty rare.

Exactly, first thoughts rolling in is that it doesn't really matter, at least not for the price tag. The noise from the ventilators are indeed high from what I've read on several forums. I hate a loud PC or FANs as my room is near silent (acoustic treated).

I wonder if I should wait for reviews or not. I've ordered all the computers parts except for the Processor, Motherboard and memory.

Is Anandtech working on a in-depth comparison between X470 (or B) and X570 boards?

This is pretty much the setup that I'm looking to get too. I'm just waiting on some sales on a decent x470 board. I'm in no rush with my 4770k that's still serving me well.

If you are thinking there will be a performance difference between B450/X470 and X570, you would mostly be wrong. They will all perform within a few % of each other.

The real reason to go X570 is if you want the latest and greatest features, additional I/O, most up to date wifi (wifi 6), and PCIE 4.0. The only other reason is if you plan on getting one of the 3950x and want to beefiest power delivery. The X570 boards do have better power delivery than their X470 counterparts (mostly). If none of these things interest you, go B450 or X470.

I already have the X470 Taichi and I am considering an upgrade to the 3700X or 3800X. Waiting for more info on OC results for both chips. It would be great also if Asrock, or some modder for that matter, came out with a bios enabling PCIE 4 on my board.

Most of the X470 boards I was looking at did not have the ability to flash the bios without a CPU, so since this was going to be my first Ryzen setup, I was out of luck. After following a thread on OCN with an active Gigabyte rep promising an updated BIOS with chipset fan control, I decided to go ahead and buy an Aorus Elite despite the 4 layer board. I wound up picking up that board along with a 3700X from Microcenter and saved $50 on the board. I'm happy with the decision so far. Chipset fan is not audible over the fans on my radiator.
