Hi,

So firstly, here are my current specs:
3700x
B350F ROG Motherboard
4x8GB DDR4 @ XMP (3200Mhz)
850W Leadex superflower PSU
Zotac AMP Holo 3080Ti

I run the computer connected to an LG BX display so it's running 4k 120Hz. I also game on my laptop with the computer (via Geforce experience Gamestream and moonlight client on my laptop, sometimes 1080p and sometimes 1440p)

I can't really determine if I would get good value upgrading to a 5800x3d and keeping this platform for another year or two , of course AM4 is a dead platform and I'd hate to run into problems in the next 2 years such as CPU not fast enough or bottlenecking future GPU.

I notice my framerate in FS2020 at 4k really isn't great and DLSS does nothing yet I can see in the same location (NYC) and same settings with same GPU they're getting 50fps Vs my 25fps, I can only think the CPU is bottlenecking the 3080Ti even at 4k?

Other options is I got 7600X, new mobo and ram Vs sticking with the current B350F with 5800X maybe get a 2tb nvme for £150 as well.

Or... Stick with current setup with 3700x and get a 40 series of even RDNA3.

Thoughts?

Yes, FS2020 loves 5800X3D. But you have a bigger problem that may impact you in future. You are limited to PCIe 3.0 SSD. If and when DirectStorage takes off, you may feel the adverse impact for not having a "PCIe 4.0 SSD level" of texture streaming performance.

My suggestion would be to sell off the CPU+MOBO and get at least a B550+5800X3D. You can re-use your existing RAM. That will ensure you get two more good years of gaming, if not more for not a lot of money spent.

7600X will perform better but it may not give you 5800X3D performance in FS2020 and other games that love huge amount of cache. Of course, you can go 7600X now and upgrade to 7800X3D when that is released. That's not a bad idea either, if money is overflowing in your bank accounts :)

You are absolutely limited by your CPU. On this FS2020 benchmark at 1080p, 3700x is getting 35fps, while 5800X3D gets 56.

Given the GPU you already have, 5800X3D would right now get you a generational upgrade, at the cost of investing in a dead-end platform. Getting a 7600X right now would not get you a generational upgrade, there are only a few benchmarks available but it seems like the Zen4 series is not doing that well in FS2020. So if the flight sim is the load you care about and you don't want to get the 5800X3D, just wait until v-cache is out for the 7000-series, it will probably save you a lot of money on MB and ram too.

If you want a big upgrade on the cheap just drop the 5800X 3D in and call it a day. You have a great platform already.

There is a lot of confusion surrounding storage requirements for gaming. Anandtech had an article about it a couple of months ago. https://www.anandtech.com/show/15848/storage-matters-xbox-ps5-new-era-of-gaming

PCIE 3.0 x4 NVME will be plenty for streaming games for a long time. What we have already seen with Spiderman is that you need a CPU more powerful than consoles since the CPU will have to do the work instead of the dedicated hardware in the PS5. A 3D will be able to handle it no problem.

5800X3D is a no brainer for gaming. Alternatively you can get a great deal for 5900X which should run games great even with next gen GPUs while offering nice MT performance.

For Flight Simulator the 5800X3D is king.
But at 4K it shouldn't really matter, I find it hard to believe your CPU is the limitation at that resolution based on available benchmarks on the internet.

As others already said 5800X3D is the current best possible upgrade you can get for FS2020 even if you didn't have an AM4 board already.

This would change if you were to wait for the X3D versions of the 7000 series on AM5, but then you'd need to ask yourself how much you are willing to spend for a wholly new system. 5800X3D is a straight drop in replacement where that one piece is the only thing you need to buy.

Is it confirmed that "AM4 is dead"?
It's "dead" insofar as 5800X3D is very likely to stay the top CPU on the platform, thus offering now further ways to upgrade the CPU. New budget chips are not going to change that.

At ~ $400.00, I suspect that the 5800X3D is going to remain at the top of the gaming charts until the 7800X3D comes out next year; however, even then, it is highly unlikely that the difference in performance will be worth a complete system upgrade vs just a simple processor replacement.

Go for the 5800X3D. It is the best update for your use by a long shot.

Not sure why you think AM4 is a dead platform, there’s nothing wrong with it.

I’m running a 5600x on a ROG B550-F Gaming board, with a EVGA 3080 FTW Ultra, which is going to be fine to game 2K on for quite a few years to come.

Just remember upgrading and what is really best, only depends on your NEEDS. :)

P.S. IMHO, you should at least be on a 5600x with a 3080. And I still believe from a performance standpoint it’s better to 2K game.

I've ordered the 5800x3d, the GF was fumin.

I did noticed a 12600k with motherboard bundle is about the same price as a 5800x3d!? And comes with modern warfare 2.

Was a B660 motherboard.
You should have led with that. No PC upgrade is worth that kind of trouble. Maybe plan a nice get away with her to make it up.

And putting the 12600K on a non overclocking board with DDR4 is like cold pizza. It's good, but not what it should be.

I built a 5800X3D system in April fully aware it was a dead-end system. In games like FS2020, no CPU will come close in performance until 7800X3D release.

Since you can reuse your existing hardware, you are good to go! Make sure to update your BIOS before popping in your new CPU.

Red, that would be a big or completely unnecessary waste of $.:mask:

Most PC users don't even use(they have no need for high performance)the fastest or much faster PCIE 3.0 NVMe SSD=they are not cheap. One example, a cheap and good SSD even for gaming.

If you cant sleep without Samsung, this model is 50euro vs 29euro(local prices in my country)for Silicon Power SSD.

What can you buy for 20euro the difference in price, for example cheep but very good CPU cooler.

Thanks I'll check that link.

Well the 5800X3D makes my PC feel like a different pc.

Windows is faster and more responsive.
I've got REBAR on my B350F and it's enabled.
Games even when the framerate isn't hugely higher feel smoother.
GTA V was straight up 50fps average higher.

FS2020 over New York is now 45 to 50 fps with the ultra preset, I can even turn every settings to absolute max and the draw distance I think it is, normal is 200, I can get it playable at 300, and it's still higher frame rate compared to the 3700x at ultra preset and 200 draw distance, admitadly it's 30-40 but that's fine!

But he's, even at 4k, the 3700x was a hindrance on the 3080Ti I feel like I've just upgraded to the next tier GPU.

I've tried a -20 CO offset and in FS2020 the temps are around 80 degrees, think that's to be expected with my Hyper 212 Evo cooler.

I really wish AMD would iterate on the 5800X3D and release a better stepping with higher speeds. It sucks to see it getting beaten by 5800X in applications other than games.

Think of the 3D like a console, when you buy it, you buy it for gaming. You should not even be looking at 16 threads anymore for time is money work flows.
