amd 3200 939 overclocking msi neo 2 platinum

amd 64 3200 939

1 gig dual 400mhz 3200

neo 2 platinium bios version 1.3

9600 pro 256

i want to try to get to 2.5gigz, i know 2.6 is hard.

i've tried doing this so far,

ddr setting at 166,
multiplyer at 10
fsb 200
cpu voltage 1.5
agp 67
5%

however, it will not take 9x as multiplyer, thats not the main problem.
When i get in windows, it shows the FSB back at 200, when it should be at 250, and even back in bios it shows 250 and not 200, so what is wrong ?
the speed it shows now is 2009.mhz
 
Check your HTT multiplier. Make sure it's set at x3 when doing 250.

Also, if you're going to get to 2.5 GHz you're probably going to need more than 1.5V core.

Check out some of the overclocking guides in the forum. Overclock in smaller increments first, test stability, and then move up some more.
 
Try this out:
Update to Bios version 1.36 or 1.37

DDR @ 166 MHz
Multiplier @ x10
HTT Freq. @ 250
HTT X @ 3
Vcore @ 1.55 (maybe even +3.3%)
AGP @ 67 MHz

Disable "Spread Spectrum" and "Aggressive Timing".
 
Guys, why do you set your DDR to 166MHz? I thought you want it to match your FSB, aka 250, or if you have PC3200 ram (and it can't be OC'ed), you want to keep it at 200Mhz, and change the ratio to 4:5... Am I missing something?

On the MSI board ratios are selected by changing the maximum memory clock. 166 Mhz would correspond to a 4:5 ratio, 100 Mhz would be 1:2 and 200 Mhz would be 1:1.
 
So if your FSB is OC'ed to 250, and your pc3200 (ddr400) ram can handle ddr500 speeds, selecting 200Mhz for max mem clock will actually allow it to run at 250mhz? Thanks.
 
My MSI Neo2 Plat + 3200 hits 2.5 on water with 1.55 volts and will do 2.6 on the highest voltage the mobo will give (1.63) but isn't Prime stable. I have had no BIOS issues at all, I'm thinking your RAM could the problem, what brand is it?
 
I have a Neo2 with a 3200+ overclocked to 2.4 Gh. I am having stability issues in HL2. It will stop and an error message will come up saying 0xf8... referenced memory at 0x01b... Memory could not be read. This configuration makes it through 3DMark 2001, 2003, 2005 just fine. Surely if in can make it through 2005 it can make through HL2. Anyway...

Specs:

A64 3200+ 90nm @2400 240x10 @1.525v
HT 3x
2x512 Ballistix PC3200 RAM Timings 2.5-3-3-10 1T @2.7v
Ratio 1:1
Neo2 Plat. MB
BFG 6800GT VC

Ballistix memory shouldn't have problem at 240 Mhz with a ratio of 1:1. I know when I get to 250, I will probably have to move the clock down to 166, but at 240? Somethings wrong. Probably the weakest link in my setup is my PSU, Thermaltake 480 SilentPower. Its worked fine maybe it hit its limit.

Any suggestions?
 
No, but if I remember correctly I was at 224 and I would have random reboots with timings of 2-2-2-8, ratio 1:1, all default voltages.

I just now tried 250x9, with RAM set to 166, CPU voltage - 1.55v, and vdimm 2.75 and it was very finnicky. It would hang right before Windows would load. I eventually got into Windows and it hung on the Software rendered graphics test in 3DMark2005.

I beginning to think it is my PSU.
 
maybe not your PSU, check to see how much vcore you are getting. K8N NEO2 has severe undervoltage issues. 1.550 + 10% voltage should be 1.7 but i'm only getting 1.63 and it's not my PSU 🙁 (tried antec 430 and some compusa brand)
 
In addition to the first article in this sub-forum (a great OC guide for beginners like me), is there any other internet sources providing more detailed step by step OC operation? For example, I have a Asus A8V MB, I hope to find experiences on OC setting of it.

Under Dram Configuration what settings in bios which settings did you choose to get 2.5mhz?

Hey all,

I have the same setup, trying to OC aswell. the problem i am having is with the HTT setting. it is at x5 out of the box, and when i click on it to change it, it pulls up a window with no other options..and i cant back out of it...basicaly it locks up and i have to reboot. Am i doing somthing wrong? got 1.41 bios.
 
That was just answered (by me) in another thread Nebakanezzar...just use +/- or PgUp/PgDn to change the HTT multiplier instead of opening the menu and freezing.

Running prime95 for 4 hours now.

Ran windows and 3dmark05 at 2.6Ghz but failed prime95.
 
Did you drop ram timings at 260fsb??? try dropping ram divider to 166 to see if ram is holding you back.

Oh I see you vcore is about 1.675v right now?? I guess you may have been near your limit....

Does the board offer vdimm?? If so waht is that set at???
 
all mem settings are same as i tried at 260. i might be able to lower Vmem since i lowerd it to 250.

Dunno about the vdimm, ill check when i get home.
 
Vdimm should be like 2.6 to 2.8v I believe on this board.....

Also have you tried like cas 3 settings or even a lower divider initially to rule out ram limtations in your ocing??/

agp card is a gigabyte FX5700 256 meg 8x card

Bios is 1.37
HT is set at 4
ddr at 2.55v
cpu at default
agp at 1.6v

Any help would be appreciated....
should i get ballistix memory so i can run 2.5cas istead of 3.0??

Actually a 166 setting in MSI corresponds to a 6:5 ratio or 83% of stock.....A 4:5 ratio would make it 250 at stock 200....

200 = 1:1
166 = 6:5
133 = 3:2

that represent x:y so you take fsb/x * y = mem frequency...times that by 2 and you get ddr speed since DDR is double data rate or double pumped...
