AMD 2800+ 64 reading as a CLAWHAMMER? DEFECTIVE?

my computer is reading the core as a amd 2800+ clawhammer, this is a brand new rma chip i just put in...is this even normal? they put clawhammers in a 2800+? my old one was a new castle. I just put this computer together with the DFI UT250GB board, and my memory would mess up, it would boot and everything but when i put it into 1 & 3, it messes up, right now im using slots 1 & 2, and who know whats gonna happen next? do these problems relate to the processor or no? im running at 45c right now so yeah, i also turned off cpu throbbling, and disabled agp fast write, please help



my memory is pc3200 ocz platnium rev 2, and i memtested both of em and they were running solid with no errors, i also flashed my ut250gb board.

amd sent me another 2800+ chip but both motherboard that i have read it as a AMD64 3600+!!!! at 2210MHZ!!! what is amd thinking? lol any suggestions? my memory problem and everything is really startin to get on my nerves, but ive already been patient for over 5 months of this frustration.



maybe god doesnt want me to succeed in building this computer lol

Lol, it happens, but alot of that sounds normal. My 3000+, although supposed to be a newcastle, is a clawhammer. It results from the early 2800+ and 3000+ grade processors being neutered Clawhammers. THere really wasn't a "Newcastle" core at the time. Check your processor's number to find its manufacturing date, and it'll probably be in the beginning of 2004. Also, my memory only overclocks in slots 1 & 3, if I use slot 2 at all it won't POST. Some motherboards are picky, it happens. Leave AGP fast write on, its actually beneficial to AMD64 systems. Are you sure you put the heatsink on correctly and it's clamped down? Also, are you trying to overclock? What other problems are you experiencing? Is windows crashing or anything? how would it be a failed clawhammer? its brand new, and its a 512k cache which a 2800+ should be, not 1mb
 
Part of the cache was produced incorrectly, so instead of chucking the processor they laser cut that part of the cache off and sold the processor as a 2800+.
 
forget overclocking, ill think ill jus stay with stock, think itll be a problem? that extra 200mhz overclock, im not sure if its that worth it now. I mean i have the best ocing parts like my 2225 ram, and dfi board, but i barely know anythign but oc besides changing HTT or FSB, and upping the mem voltage, so yeah.
 
If the processor wouldn't work, AMD wouldn't sell it. They would only sell it as a 2800+ if they know it would work as one, meaning the only defect must have been in the cache, the rest of the proc was fine.
 
Take the CPU out and inspect for bent pins and carefully reinstall. I have seen memory issues due to improper seating of the CPU. If you take it out...check it out and it does the same thing I would use one stick of ram then the other...still does it. Get all over AMD like the Illini on the Big Ten Tournament.
 
Yah, it'll work. I have the same kind of CPU and mine is at 2.4GHz from a stock 2Ghz. Read up on overclocking, there's a great guide at the top of this section of the forums, it's not that difficult 🙂
