AMD 2013 Q1 Earnings on Thursday - lets see how the numbers are going to be...

I'm holding some shares of this POS. My hope is that people cream themselves about the consoles + Kabini, the shares double, and I make a decent chunk of $$.

It's funny...even the non-AMD shareholder fanboys are much more optimistic about AMD than I am. Guess it's a lot easier to be fans and believe hype when you don't have money on the line 😛

Well how many shares do you hold?

A lot of these clients are under water. It would be a CLM to sell and then see it double.

Sure, I get that, I'm just surprised it wasn't changed to sell a long time ago. About 1 year ago the stock was at 8 dollars, about 3.5 times what it's at right now and had been falling for a while with no clear plan to turn things around. Just seems like that was an easy one to call if you were paying attention to the company/industry. Ah well, just glad I'm not an analyst, it can't be an easy job.

Few thousand. Would be nice to see it tick up a buck or two.

Ouch, hope you didn't get in too high. I picked up a measly 100, but it was several months ago right after it bottomed out, so I'm actually decently happy with where they are but even if they go belly up, I'm not in too much hurt.

Good. Then you havnt lost to much - and have more than nothing. For a moment it sounded like you lost your pension savings 🙂 - on the other hand, if you gain a lot, you can waste it on some new tech. Its always nice, - no matter your budget.

Me too 🙂.

Although even at doubling I think I still lose. I think my cost basis is somewhere around $5.

Never try to stop a falling knife...

Funnily , a fast CPU is of no help if one is slow at clicking
on the "sell" button once the things is 5% out of the money.

That would have been a good call. You'd be shocked how many held thru that share price collapse, psychology of stock market I guess.

Don't tell that to Warren Buffet.

Not the same business , WB generaly buys the whole of a corporate
while as a tiny shareholder you have no control over the society.

I never owned a position more than a day since the London bombings
that allowed me to miraculously close a (winning!!) trade after being
stuck a couple months or so with a massive uncautious short....

Besides , with day trading you can calmly throw 50 000$
in a trade , try doing the same in a mid/long term position
and still sleep unconcerned...

They are forecasting acceleration around Q3 and Q4. CAPEX should start to shrink on Q4. Yes, it will be a tough year, but not as bad as some were forecasting.

a little off-topic but I remember threads comparing business ethics of intel compared amd but it seems amd is quite good

So you felt an abrupt need to post it in a thread that's talking about AMDs impending bad earnings calls to...?

Couldn't be to deflect the attention of anyone.
Definately not.

I geuss your just so random.

Back to Topic:

I expected intel's to be alot worse - maybe AMD hasn't been hit as hard as expected from the YoY PC sales either?

Intel Q1 2013 down 7% in revenue and 17% down in income Quarter to Quarter

Operating income down 50% yoy should be sending shivers down spines.

Intel has many revenue outlets and datacenter was good this quarter, but PC is terribly weak and will stay that way.
