AMD 1ghz ... What board should I get??

undercover

Senior member
I want ATA100, AGP 4X, 5 PCI slots ..... Whats a good one?

and

I have a 256 PC133 chip from Crucial will it work>?

Abit KT7 or MSI K7T pro 2a

Both of those have a board for raid as well.

I'm building a system for my Dad with the MSI K7T-Pro because it's cheaper (thx glenn 🙂 ) but for myself I'd want the MSI K7T-Pro2A.

What about the Asus A7V? You guys dont ever recommend that board. From the reviews it looks great. But I also agree with the MSI KT7-Pro2A.

AmdEmAll: The asus is a good board, it ranks on the same level as the KT7(maybe a little lower for overclockers), but the new K7T is newer technology, more stable, ATA100, etc. It is also less money.

So I also vote for the K7T.

I don' t mean to butt in on your thread, but I'm interested in this, too. If one needed an ISA slot (the MSI doesn't have one), too, which board now? Thanks.....

yea if you need an isa slot, go with the ABIT KT7-RAID...but it'll cost your about 30+ bucks more for that motherboard over the msi k7t pro2a

But, if you wanted the ISA slot because you have a $20 modem that uses it, replace the modem w/ a pci one and get the K7T, saving $30 on it. 🙂

Epox EP-8kta2
Has ISA slot, supports ATA-100, has multiplier and voltage switches
And the best part is, it is only $115.

With my recent experiences with Abit and Asus I am now not recomending their products.

A7V for sure, or if ya want to save a few bucks you can get the A7V pro, but that gets rid of ata100, but i have used both and would recommend it to anyone who wants to build a computer and doesnt want to spend hours trouble shooting or posting "URGENT - PLEASE HELP ME" threads

Thanks for letting me piggy back, Undercover.... I've got the same 256MB Crucial chip, and looking for the Tbird 1G, too.

I have a scanner with an ISA SCSI card (HP 5p) so I need the ISA slot. Sounds like the Epox is good. Anybody have anything to say about a Soyo?
