Wow, this is really good deal. Just checked pricewatch again, and
found 1GHZ TBird only $279 plus $10 shipping. AMD must be craking out
too many 1GZ CPU.

I am going to get one and a Abit KT7, which online seller has good reputation?

Wow, I love it!
Anyone have a feel for the best overclocker per dollar. I thought I heard that the 1gigs can't be overclocked by very much.

Would the 850 be a good candidate for 1gig ?

I got a KT7 a couple of weeks ago from essential computers and others were getting them at microbarn.com. Definitely an excellent board.

Ah yes the old elitist question. Well, like any society we have a pecking order here. You must establish your presence via member status. Serfs are the lowest and the kings are the highest. Its a trick to get people to use the BBS. How many idiots double and triple posted EVERY post so that they could have someone they will never meet think more highly of them? I must confess to posting a few times for sheer elevation. And I'd like to think myself a humble person. No seriously....

The real proof of that is that your height in the pecking order is directly proportional to your likelyhood of allowing others to see your profile.

Just call that IronTek's first rule of Anand's BBS! ;)

Of course, there are exceptions...anyone can see my profile, even though I'm just a lowly member! :(

<Message updated because I can't spel..then again, that must be why I'm still a lowly member>

My 1GHz doesn't seem great now either, especially after paying near $500 for it. Now it's all up to overclocking. I got my KT7-RAID from PCNut.com, a tad more expensive than other places, but they had a great resellers rating.

I have two green core 900s that do 1.1 and 1050mhz respectively. And also another duron 700 @ 1gig. I swear, with intel chips I couldn't go very far, my best overclock was a P3-550e @ 881mhz.

If you guys are gonna get any socket A tbirds lower than 1ghz, LOOK for BLUE/PURPLE cores, they are guaranteed to hit 1.1ghz with aircooling. Yes, I happened to get lucky hitting 1.1ghz.

you can check out my benchmarks right here

It might not be up yet due to my wonderful service provider.

IHYLN,

Do you have a good, cheap, reliable source for the blue/purple cores?

thanks for the info

These new retail prices make the once popular overclockerz store a rip off. I paid over $229 for a 1GHz T-Bird no more than a couple weeks ago.

The best place to pick up blue/purple cores are over at computer shows. That's where many of my friends have bought blue 900-950 cores. That's what I recommend because you can literally cherry pick the CPUs out yourself and they don't mark up blue cores over green cores like some online places I've seen.
