AMD 1600+ Overclocking question

I just received my cpu a couple of days ago and I think I have unlocked it correctly. I am using a shuttle ak31 rev. 3.1 board and I cannot get the multiplier higher than 11.5x. I mean, I can in the bios, but when I look it up in sandra, the highest it goes is 11.5x.
when I put in 12x in the bios, sandra reads 11x.
when I put in 13x in the bios sandra reads 11.5x
when I put 11.5x in the bios, sandra reads 11.5x and everything below reads accurately.

I've tried various fsb speeds, but the highest i want to go is 140mhz because of stability. I am running crucial 2100ddr ram. Is 11.5 the hightest the multiplier can go?
or did I mess up my cpu? (I think i kinda did a hack job on it, being my first try and all)

The sandra benches do run accurately though. I am currently at 1900+ (1.61ghz) at 42 degress idle.

Sorry forgot to mention I have tried upping the vcore (1.85v) but did not help so I am running default right now (1.725v)
 
if you unlocked it correctly, you should be able to get a 12.5 multiplier. you should probably try again to unlock it. good luck.
 
yeah, that's what I figured too. But I think I might have messed it up (the chip itself) because when I first saw the problem, I took it out and did it again. I think I might have pressed too hard with the exacto knife when I was trying to make sure to sever the bridges from each other. The thing is, if it isn't unlocked, could I even run the 11.5 multiplier setting?
 
I have the exact same cpu and mobo. My cpu is still locked and if I attempt to boot with the wrong multiplier it does not even post and I have to reset the bios, so I would say that you have unlocked it successfully. Check what WCPUID says about the multiplier. The problem may be the bios. Update it with the newest version from here: http://www.spacewalker.com/english/note1.asp?product=AK31%20(V3.x). You can download WCPUID from here http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=435 if you do not already have it.
 
how were you trying to unlock it? if you are using the unlocking kit from highspeedpc.com, you can just wipe it and redraw the lines, no harm done. the kit is $10 and works great.
 
I unlocked it using crazy glue, tape, and a rear window defogger kit. I'll try updating the bios, but last time when I updated (couple of months ago) the bios notes said that it supports xp chips. Thanks for the help!
 
I updated the bios and now when I try anything higher than 11.5 it will not boot. So I think, somehow, my cpu is locked at 11.5. But, it is a 1600+ cpu which means it should be locked at 10.5, right? Is 11.5 the limit my multiplier can go with this cpu or is it somehow locked? Should I be able to go higher? Thanks again!
 
yes, the 1600+ is locked at 10.5. when i unlocked mine, i was able to go up to 12.5. i'm not sure what could be wrong with yours...
