AMD 1.4ghz temperature readouts when overclocked question

I just got a soyo dragon mobo, and i have to say its pretty good.

I decided today to over clock the bad boy with a 1.4ghz amd cpu.

I have a Volcano Heatsink and i put that thermal gunk on the cpu too. I also got a heat sink for my ram.

So far I have been able to over clock it to : 1522.1mhz running @ 39 celisius.
I put the FSB to 145mhz.

Is 39 degrees good? My system temp is alot hotter, it is at 55-59 degrees. Would it be wise to overclock the fsb to 150, or a bit higher, I noticed that when I overclocked the cpu, the perfomance on the Sisoft Sandra memory test went up by 5 percent.

I forgot to mention, that I did a stress test for about 4 hours, and its still rock solid.

Sure I can do it longer, but I wouldnt be able to write this post.

mine stays around 107 - 111 now due to the heatwave we have now otherwise it would stay under 100

My system temp is alot hotter, it is at 55-59 degrees. <---This is your CPU temp. And it is average. It would be better if you got a nicer heatsink, like a Golden Gate Gladiator ($25 shipped) or an Alpha PAL6035 ($20 shipped).

Would it be wise to overclock the fsb to 150, or a bit higher, I noticed that when I overclocked the cpu, the perfomance on the Sisoft Sandra memory test went up by 5 percent. Yes, overclocking to the 150 FSB will increase the performance quite a bit, but I have heard you will lose your USB function on your Soyo Dragon at high FSBs (KT266 chipset issue). So if you don't use your USB ports, go for 150 FSB. Otherwise, I'd test it out. >>

Are you sure that is my cpu temp, cause when I reboot to the bios. It says CPU core temperature at 39, and when I go to windows and use a program that tell me the temp in 10 second delays, its 39 as well.

I am confused.

If you had a 59C system temperature, that means the general air temperature inside your case is 140 degrees F, which is a bit higher than the norm. Search around, the average system temperature for most people is between 20C (low) and 40C (high).

The average CPU temperature for a 1.5GHz Athlon is around 45C-55C under load. And you're using a Volcano heatsink, which has low performance compared to other aftermarket heatsinks out there.

EDIT: Maybe I drew my conclusion too early. I looked at your picture...do you have any case fans in your case? What kind of case do you have?

a 59C system temperature? Very very doubtful...although i don't understand why your prog is reporting that as your cpu temp...hmmm...

Depending on what HSF you want...prices will vary...if you're on a budget...grab the sk-6 (if you don't mind the noise) from millisec. If you have some money to burn...grab the swiftech mc-462a from sidewindercomputers and slap a 80mm delta fan (LOUD).

If you want to keep your case cool, make sure you have case fans, both for air in and out.

Round all your cables. It's quite simple; first fold you cables into a VV shape. That will compact them. Then get some electrical tape, and spiral wrap each cable tightly. It takes about 2-3 minutes per cable. I've done this to all my floppy, ATA33, ATA100, UltraSCSI, and UWSCSI cables without any complications.

that doesn't make sense tho...i might be wrong but can you even have a 59 C system temp? Where do you live? Death valley or las vegas? j/k

Should I put it back to normal speed? And Wait till I get a better fan?

Is it running to hot now?

if that truly is your system temp...that is crazy high...i'm thinking your prog is getting the two mixed up...but that's weird...cuz my sandra reports everything correctly...hmmm... Is it really warm inside your case right now?

The bios reports the cpu temp with the same numbers as teh sisoft sandra

I made sure the cpu fan was on the CPU can power slut thing. and the case was on its CASE power slut thing.

Well is it hot in there? Is the mobo hot? Maybe there's something wrong with your sensor...

I touched the mobo and i got my finger near the cpu and it didnt feel hot.

You think I did the setup wrong, or the sensors off?

An un-stable game machine is acceptable. Frame rate to the max - YES! u no.
An un-stable college term paper machine. No.
An un-stable UBID.COM machine bidding on unbeliveable cheap part. No
A work machine finishing drawings for a presentation tommorrow. No.

I guess my point is yes, we as men, like to brag how far to the limit we can push
our PeeCee's, but let's get real, a mission critical PeeCee is not worth overclocking.
