AMC Movie Theater Scam?

So I went to an AMC theater last night while I was in Atlanta. I went to see the latest 007 movie with my dad (crappy movie BTW).

Anyway, I went to the concession stand and got raped by buying a $3.50 bottle of Dasani water (I expected this). I got the water and as I walked towards the theater, I decided to open it. Well, the cap just came right off. No plastic seal was broken as usually happens. I then noticed another strange thing. The water in the bottle seemed to be filled too high. So I went back to the counter and made an exchange for another bottle. This time the bottle opened with the right snap and twisting of plastic and the water level was where it was suppose to be.

Anyway, my guess is that AMC (and maybe others) are filling empty water bottles with tap water or worse yet, cleaning or not cleaning used ones, and are simply charging $3.50 for them. Makes typical greedy American business sense, doesn't it?

You might want to keep an eye out next time you buy bottled water.

i think they're smart enough to not risk the $0.50 in profit for a lawsuit worth millions. this is not some third-world country...

Would be settled for far less, assuming you could even prove anything.

Maybe one of the workers was drinking it - keeping it cold in the fridge and your associate grabbed it by mistake.

That is more plausible than your conspiracy theory.

Dasani is owned by Coca-Cola. they use the same lines that make Diet Coke / Coke / etc. these things happen from time to time-- bottle caps incorrectly applied at the plant, over/under filling. over course they've worked out most of the kinks, but mistakes do happen.

and as a side note-- food and drinks cost so much at the theater because movie companies keep most of the box office receipts from the theater. theaters make most of their money from food and drinks. that's why they're so expensive.

AMC probably wouldn't risk there business for a $350 water bottle. They could get into a lot of trouble for this and could easily be closed down.

It wasn't AMC per se, it was probably just an employee working behind the counter.

They take inventory by containers. Sooo if an employee grabs a used water bottle or popcorn bucket from a theater that just emptied and they refill it they can charge you for it but since the "container" was already sold it won't show up as anything suspicious when the manager checks inventory versus money in the register.

That's what I've heard, anyway. 😛

Bring your own bottle of water. Save the money. I always bring drinks stuffed in my short's utility pocket.

Probably just evens everything out. I know some people who are not afraid to go find a trash can and pull out a popcorn bucket & cup, and go get free refills. I'd do it to save the $$, but it's just too gross for me to actually do myself.

That's why I always just smuggle in my own soda or whatever. Retarded getting raped to buy the ticket and then getting sodomized for the refreshments.

Always bring your own stuff to a movie theater. Especially drinks, popcorn on the other hand.. you are going to have to suck it up.
