Ambien.....

I recently got a prescription for this stuff just to help me get to sleep at the beginning of the week. It works AMAZINGLY well and I've been able to go to sleep with no trouble. The only thing, though, is that you have to take it right when you get in bed because if you don't, you will have some serious amnesia. If I take it 30 minutes to 1 hour before bed and hang around for awhile, I won't remember ANYTHING I said or did during that time! It's kind of scary 😱 I even cut the pill in half last night and took half the dosage, but still had a similar degree of memory loss (though not as bad).

Has anyone else used Ambien? Has it worked out for you?

Sounds like an alibi...

"No, honestly your honor, I don't remember punching my wife in the neck. The last thing I remember is taking an Ambien..."

my wife got it when she was pregnant and couldnt sleep.

about one time in 10 she seemed to hallucinate....which was really funny. slept like a charm with it, my aunt had a prescription for it, but only took a half of a 10mg dose when she used it; even 5mg of that stuff can put someone out all night.

after 15 or 20 minutes my wife could hardly walk by herself, if you take ambien you wont be punching anything.

Yeah, I stumble around like I'm drunk. I'm more afraid of hurting *myself* than anyone else!

I've decided to only take it once I'm in bed from now on.

Yep, had a prescription for the stuff about a year and a half ago. Got the amnesia bit also, which freaked me out, and was counterproductive to trying to save my marriage (not that it mattered). So I went back to the doc and got something else that didn't work as well, but didn't make me lose chunks of my life 😛

If you read the warning, it reccomends not taking ambien to help you sleep on long flights, as you may wake up completely disoriented as to where you are and how you got there!

The best thing about Ambien is that it is made to leave your system quickly. It knoocks you on your azz quickly and is pretty much out of your system within 6 hours, therefore there is not groggy feeling the next day.

I love it... but my insurance will not cover it.
🙂

That's right - my insurance didn't cover it either - was like $50 for the prescription.

Same here. I usually get around 7-7.5 hrs of sleep and I still don't feel like I've gotten enough. I usually wake up in the middle of the night or early morning a couple of times.

Yes, some people take it just for the hallucinating part... however, I wonder if you would remember that you hallucinated.

It definitely is awesome that you don't feel groggy in the morning. I've noticed this as well 🙂 I also don't wake up in the middle of the night... which is nice. I'm just going to have to make sure that I take it when I'm already IN bed. It's not good to get up and walk around after you've taken it.

Oh, and luckily it's covered by my insurance: $25.00 for a bottle of 14 pills (will last almost a month since I am breaking them in halves).

I got some of that when I had my lazik. I only used it once and still have some around if I ever have trouble sleeping.

Uhg. That would be pretty freaky. I can get that way when I travel a lot WITHOUT taking sleep aids. Can't imagine how disorienting it would be with chemically induced amnesia. :Q

If you have allergies and are also looking for a really cheap sleep pill, ask your doctor for Sinequan. That stuff will knock you on your ass. It was delveloped as an antidepressant, but also has strong antihistamine qualities.

Unfortunately though, it doesn't burn through your system like Ambien. So you wind up feeling groggy in the morning.

-edit-

Doxepin is the generic name.
