I don't see how much protection this is going to offer compared to regular packaging.

Is my sarcasm meter broken or are you for real?

Look at the video they have and tell me if I am missing something if all they do is ship it in a box with a small piece of cardboard on top.

Compared to regular packaging where they use actual protection that is and all the parts are in a usual stiff container holding all the separate parts in a safe area.
My thoughts exactly. Amazon says it's just as good, but I'd like to see some testing.

Since when do they ship boxes in just their packaging?

Don't get me wrong if they ship it in just the frustration free packaging, it obviously will be inferior, but I would hope it will still be packed properly in a shipping box. In which case I really don't see any difference in protection offered by either method.
Considering what UPS is capable of doing to my shipping boxes, half the things I order on the internet would come broken if they were in turn loosely packed in a product box.

They can do this because they don't have to worry about customers stealing their products like regulars do. OTOH, I like this direction because, cut the wrong way, those hard plastics can leave a nasty incision on your body.

I see posters on Amazon's site constantly complaining about getting returned and repackaged broken goods, and they are mostly complaining in the TOYS and CONSUMER ELECTRONICS areas. Funny how this is the area they are trying to start this up in FIRST, HUH?

What a load of BS. They are repackaging returned goods to see how many times they can sell them until someone gives it as a gift and they finally get stuck with it and it's not returned.

What innovation. 😛

I like this. I might shop more on amazon because of this. I have to pull out my Leatherman to unpack toy, that is just fucking retarded. I especially hate those metal wires they run through the toys. Best way for me is to use a wirecutter and just cut those fuckers.

Yes, I am that frustrated.

What, you've never almost sliced half your hand off trying to open one of those things?

no because im not a total fucking moron

Don't be too frustrated. Next time they might send you your blow up doll packaged like that, and you can get right on it, and no time wasting packaging frustration required!

And I hope you don't mind the sticky preused orifices!

Read the product reviews there much?

I guess not.

Reading is your friend. 😉

Ummm, I worked for Toys r Us for a while. That used blow up doll is most likely 100% cleaner than the used snot and food and poop smeared toys we got returned after xmas. If that's acceptable to be repackaging toys for your younguns, hey, who am I to complain about it. That's why they have antibiotics, right?

You managed to get yourself fired from Toys R Us? That must be some kind of record there.

I never said that.

They hire temporary help over the holidays, and I actually was playing security guard in the parking lot most of the time. The rest of the time was just a complete nightmare of screaming kids and parents screaming at their kids to stop screaming. And xmas music played in a deafening brain numbing loop making it almost impossible to work over the screaming and jingle bells.

And just trying to get from one end of the store to the other to do your job was nearly impossible with all the kids running amok seemingly unchained and free of their basement shackles for the first time all year. I know me and my friends growing up never acted like that in public, but spare the rod, and spoil the child, right?

That has got to be the single worst place to work at xmas, bar none. Well, Upchuck Cheese's may be just as bad. I had friends who worked there, and you won't believe the horror stories they told me, but that's for another thread, ok?

Yeah, I am going to have to agree that Toys R Us is probably the worst place to be during xmas time. That is why I don't do xmas shopping in person. I would rather pay shipping than go through the hell that is malls.

Why does Amazon usually ship a box inside another box?

A product's original box often is not designed to be shipped directly to the customer. To ensure it arrives safely, we may place it inside another box. With Frustration-Free Packaging, the products have been designed to ship in their original containers directly to the customer.

I nearly broke a set of headphones trying to pry them from the package.

Try a utility knife, you can adjust the depth so it just cuts through the packaging.

I used the sheeps foot serrated blade on Leatherman and it works like a charm on blisterpak.

Use scissors instead of a box-cutter and you're fine. I do agree the plastic is harder than it should be though. Just need to take your time opening those damn things.

you are getting a 10000 piece jigsaw puzzle in this year's secret santa. Picture is a polar bear sitting on the frozen tundra.

I cut a driver CD in half once that was hidden in the cardboard insert...I didn't even notice the extra resistence since the scissors being strained near the breaking point is pretty normal when it comes to cutting the clam shell package.

Just last night I bought something that came in a plastic package, but on the back it was perforated so you could easily open it. I think that's a great way to go for B&M stores. It still deters theft, and it's easy to open.

As it happens, it was shipped to me in an excessively large box by Amazon.com

The jagged edges in the hard plastic caused by mercilessly ripping through with only mediocre scissors can cause some pretty bad lacerations that don't stop bleeding. Some people see blood and immediately go to the ER :/
