Thanks for the post. Considered the Foreman grill but reading the reviews convinced me otherwise (not that easy to clean, teflon can buble up if grill left closed while cooling down, easier to use regular cookware, etc).

I love Amazon.com's user reviews system. How come nobody else has copied this simple system? Of course one shouldn't take the reviews as expert opinion but it is a really cool system - especially for books.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who reads the Amazon customer reviews, they've helped me out before on other purchases.

Check out EPINIONS for a wealth of user reviews. I find it valuable in my purchasing research.

Not tyring to thread crap here, but I have yet to find any good deal in Amazon's "Friday Sale". They apparently use it to try to unload garbage that nobody will buy. Especially distasteful is when they try to hawk software that is 2 revisions old for 1/2 off its original retail price when it has zero value.

I use one of these at home and really like it. Never had a problem cooling or cleaning it and it's much easier to use than normal cookware. Plug it in, use it, wipe it down, put it away.

I have seen some that the teflon was all messed up on(not suppose to eat out of scratched off teflon)
I like the fatty grease and taste of a regular grill..yummy!!!

I agree, the Foreman grill is very useful, particularly if you live in an apartment or you don't have a good outdoor grill. The meats you cook won't have the "smoky" flavor of a charcoal or even a gas grill, but they are still very good. I've made pork chops, burgers, steaks, sandwiches, bacon, and many other things on the grill.

The whole fat-draining thing is somewhat overrated but if you use higher-fat ground beef or if you cook bacon, you will definitely see some runoff.

User review system? I think many places have that, like circucity's web page.

Anybody noticed that Kanka TV? looks so cute.

How about the deal on the SMC wireless router. That seems pretty good. With a $10 off coupon it would $179. Has anyone seen anything better on a wireless router?

Other places have user review systems but you can tell either their web team isn't very good or they haven't sold their management on the value of user review systems as their user review systems aren't implemented as tightly as Amazon.com's system. Amazon.com also has a lot of clout due to size so perhaps the smaller stores are more worried about law suits with negative reviews being posted.

Epinions is great but I didn't really count them above because they aren't an actual store... Which is probably a good thing because they will be around while the stores come and go. Least hopefully :).

In closing, as a web developer, I have to agree with Jakob Nielson and conclude that the other venders are copying Amazon.com features that look good but contribute little value to the end user. More complicated parts like the review system are either not attempted at all or done badly.

Sorry for going a little off-topic here, but I don't know if I would trust Amazon's customer reviews - for instance, the first two customer reviews here (not the reviews of the day) were undoubtedly written by the same person - company employee, perchance?
