Amazon video cannot stream hi def content to a PC?

I just rented a movie and it says HD movie playback is limited Kindle Fire HD, Xbox 360, PS3, Roku, TiVO or other Amazon Instant Video devices....so HD video cannot be stream to a regular old computer? how does this make any sense?

It doesn't make sense to you because you assume that Amazon's decision was based on technical capability, rather than large bags of money.

It might depend on the content/movie. I've been working my way through the entire Fringe series using Amazon Instant Video, and it streams perfectly to my pc in HD.

What show?

I was happy to find that my Apple TV 2 was able to stream House of Cards in "Super HD" using Netflix. It did look nice, but still had a lot of dithering in the colors.

Didn't try it on my PC.

I'm disappointed in the service on both my iPhone and PS3. Doesn't work as well as Netflix and no CC.

My sister has a trial. I downloaded the iPad app for her to try. I saw "Videodrome" and tapped it. There's no "watch" or "buy" option anywhere! I can add it to the "Watch List." Then I open the watch list, and there's still NO WAY TO $#%#ING WATCH IT!

Movie...Prometheus.

shitty movie,
she is pregnant with the alien baby(thus starting the series of alien baes movies), and the robot guy is a complete pile of shit /dick.

We provide spoiler tags for a reason - use them.

This irked me so much. Had a brand new 60" plasma, was streaming Breaking Bad on Netflix through PS3, the company I had over wanted to watch something only Amazon had, so we rent it and start watching. TV speakers sucked and I hadn't gotten my speakers. Decided to stream it over hdmi from notebook and hook up my z2300s for sound only to find that out

Back on topic - the interesting thing is that they DO stream in HD to the PC for their TV shows. This throws all technical related excuses out the window, which means it has to do with licensing? But it certainly doesn't put Amazon in a good light when Netflix can do it without any issue.

It looks like streaming HD to PC was available at some point, but that changed sometime late 2012. There are plenty of unhappy people on Amazon's discussion boards.

It seemed to me it changed around the same time as the Fire HD coming out. I always assumed they just wanted you to purchase their HD tablet to get the HD content. Very annoying.

Well, yeah, the whole point of HD is to watch things on a 10" screen!

I find it aggravating to fire up the XBox 360 to stream in HD.
