I called them twice and had issues understanding them

I dont have the shipping bag that it came in but the camera box. Do i just leave the camera box outside my front door and UPS will label it and ship it back to amazon? the return authorization that i was told to print out only has a barcode that reads for amazon.com use only. I could not find anywhere on the site to print out a return label to send back to amazon.

Just seems sorta weird to leave a camera box with no address or labels outside my front door.

This.

should i wrap the camera box in shipping paper or just tape a piece of paper to the box with the return address?

wtf? You need to put the camera box inside a shipping box with a mailing label which you print from their site.

Find a box or padded envelope to do this, buy one if you have to.... I just don't see how you think leaving an electronic item outside with no packaging would be a good idea....

the camera is in the camera box. the camera box was shipped in a plastic envelope which i threw away.

the rep on the phone said it would be ok to leave just the box outside my door.

If I was at my farm I would leave the box outside on my doorstep. Tho my nearest neighbor is about a half mile down the road. But at my house in town, NO WAY. That box would be gone before I was down the street.

Is amazon sending a call tag, or are you responsible for printing the return shipping label. I had to return a product from amazon marketplace and the vendor sent a call tag. The driver then showed up with the label and put it on the box. So it depends on the return method.

IIRC, amazon has a system where you print the return label, and it automatically has the return address and amazon's address on it. You can't just leave an unaddressed box and think it'll magically make it's way to amazon.

Also, yes, either wrap it in shipping paper, or put it in another box. I take it you don't ship much, do you?

Yea I understand that there is the camera box that holds the camera, but typically that box pretty much advertises there is a camera inside of it! While I'm a honest person, I'd be tempted to take it.

The rep probably didn't think you were dumb enough to think leaving a camera box outside would be a good idea. I don't think I've had anything from Amazon that not arrive in a box, even with their "ready to ship" items, they still stick that box inside of another box....

Shame on everyone here for calling OP dumb.
Turns out you are the ones who have no brains.
I found myself on this thread wondering the same thing OP did.
15 minutes ago a UPS driver came to my house.
My box was on the front step WITHOUT a label on it!
I was able to get to the door to ask him if it needed a label and he told me, and I quote: " No, you don't need the label on the outside, we bring that for you and put it on"

Amazons return label is a barcode like OP mentioned. This goes INSIDE the box as stated on amazons site.

So for anyone looking for an answer to this here is the truth:
Step 1. print out the label with the bar code on it.
Step 2. place the return item into a shipping box. (the box it came in will do fine.)
Step 3. place the printed out label into the box along with your item.
Step 4. Tape up the box. And that's it. You DO NOT put any labels on the outside of the shipping box.
Step 5. Either wait for the UPS guy or leave the box outside the door if you are comfortable with that.
Step 6. The UPS guy will show up WITH THE LABEL and apply it to the box.
Step 7. The UPS guy will hand you a receipt or leave it stuck to your door.

The idiots on this thread don't know a damn thing and I urge everyone on this forum to seriously question any other posts made by them where they claim to know anything.

Maybe things have changed in the last five years since the thread was posted.

I have had Amazon returns in the last several months that were treated differently; some had a label I had to affix to the outside of the package, and some just had a return document and Amazon very clearly advised on their page that the driver will provide the label.

Amazon has always given me the shipping label to tape onto the outside of the box.

Are you sending free ipods btw?

Here are the ways in which you have failed in this thread:

1. bumped a 5 year old thread
2. not read the OP correctly. This person was going to just put the plain old camera box outside his front door, NOT a shipping box.
3. NOT offered any free iDevices
