Amazon unlimited second day shipping plan

Not sure this qualifies as hot, but anyway.

Amazon now offers you to pay $79 per year and get everything shipped second day free. Next day at discount.

This might be interesting for people who don't like to batch orders or buy lots of little toys off amazon every now and then.

Now, if newegg would offer that deal they'd have 99% of my business right away 🙂

So it's $79 and that's all you pay? Or $79 PLUS a discounted rate on the 2nd day shipping?

For the $79, you get all the 2nd day you want, no fee. Next day is $3.99 per item with the plan.

as posted on amazon: after you pay the 79 for unlimited.

Unlimited Express Shipping

* Free Two-Day Shipping on over a million in-stock items
* Overnight Shipping for only $3.99 per item?order as late as 6:30 PM ET

Effortless Shopping

* No minimum purchase required
* No need to consolidate items to save on shipping

Convenient Sharing

* Share the benefits of your Amazon Prime membership with up to four family members living in the same household

This is really tempting! This could eliminate B&M shopping. It says that you can order by 6:30 EST for overnight shipping.

Not trying to threadcrap, just being careful. It doesn't say EVERY item. If it was, then this would be very interesting. I suppose if you purchase from there at least once a month, then this would be a decent deal.

I dont think I have ever paid shipping on any of my amazon orders, why pay $79? I can wait a few days longer to a week for my order. Have we forgotten the ONLY reason we buy online in the first place is to save money, not time.

Good point, but a lot of the time when I don't buy online, it's because I need it right away, and the faster shipping kills a lot of the online deals. I don't mind waiting a week for an item that isn't critical... But, because of the costs usually associated with overnight shipping, I don't even bother looking online when I need it within 1 or 2 days.

If i bought more than twice a year from amazon this might be worth considering. Paying 4 bucks for overnight on a shipment , woohoo.

I think buying online one of the new values presented is saving time. The It's more convinient, you'll find everything you need, and now: you'll get it to you faster.

I'll pass on this like many hot deals, but i'm sure someone out there in ATHD could use this.

For the most part Buy.com offers free shipping on most every item and they tend to get those to you rather quickly.

I still don't see the point in paying a flat fee for shipping for a year.

If Newegg were to do this it still would not make me buy from them. They used to be good and competitive with there pricing scheme, not anymore. NE needs a good swift kick IMO.

Virtually all the stuff I order from Amazon is DVD's or books, and even with their normal free shipping, I still get it one day after it ships (I live about 200 miles from where they ship them from).

Obviously, a "good for me" thing...

Great deal for those that order a lot of stuff though.

This deal combined with other recent occurrences at Amazon make me wonder if they aren't running into some financial issues. They dropped "Share the Love". They dropped the "Gold Box". Now, they are trying to get people to cough up an additional $79 for 1 year of 2-day shipping (knowing full well that many of the people who opt for this will not actually use it enough where it starts costing Amazon money). Does make me go "Hmm..."

This $79 shipping deal is an interesting one though. I doubt that Amazon pays more than $1 to ship a 1 lb. package 2nd day, given their volume (UPS gives huge discounts to frequent shippers, a company I worked for paid $2.46 for a 2nd day flat-rate or 1 lb. package and they only had a fraction of Amazon's volume). So, you would have to ship a lot of stuff before it would start costing Amazon money.

It could be decent if Amazon actually shipped quickly. They take forever on the processing at the warehouse. Plus Amazon is not that cheap on stuff.

I think they de-prioritize super saver free shipping orders and purposely drag their feet on processing them in order to encourage more people to choose a paid shipping option.

I think this is true. I sometimes pay the base shipping on somethink that would ship for free. It takes several days less than "Super Saver". Sometimes its worth it.

As for this deal, its not for everyone (not for many people) but it could be great for some. One of their motivations in doing this is to get a bigger share of your business. Amazon and Buy.com usually have very close prices, but I buy at Amazon because I have an Amazon Visa and get more points (about a 3% discount, plus the "Pi/2" discount). If I had pre-paid 2-day shipping, then they would get an even larger percent of my business.

The free shipping

1) requires $25 or more. That is why I said this is useful for people who often order small stuff

2) the free shipping for $25 and over doesn't apply to even the majority of items

3) it is much slower than 2nd day

But as people remarked, it doesn't seem guaranteed that this offer includes all items.

so does that mean by paying $79/yr, i get free 2nd day shipping , no matter how much i order. for example can i order a $2 toothpaste and get free 2nd day shipping? also what about their stores and other sellers, do those get compensated too? or only the main amazon store.

//krunk (^_^x)

Doesn't apply to other sellers.

It is unclear whether it applies to *all* items, but it at least it applies to many more items than the > $25 free slow shipping option.
