the DRM restrictions are pretty harsh. Even though you can have the file on two computers, you can't just transfer the files between the computers- you have to redownload it. Seems pretty silly.

I forgot to address the first point you made. You can copy the files over if you want, make sure you copy both the normal and the mobile and just use the import feature in the app and you will be all set. It will automatically sync up your accounts and get you a license and all the metadata to enjoy the content in question.

I was not aware of that. I guess some of the /. posting are factually incorrect.

In my experience I have found that in a few rare cases postings on slashdot may be slightly biased or sometimes inncorrect altogther.

glad you chose vc-1 over h.264....not enough stuff can accelerate it in hardware yet can it runs liek crap on may devices🙁

h.264 is the devil 🙂 10-14hrs encoding of a two hr movie using high-profile is the norm...and this on a A64 running@2600 mhz. I will look into that vc-1 codec, if there are any out already.

Although..h.264 is great..at least using x264, encoding with megui/staxrip etc...but as said...incredible slow 🙂

vc-1 is essentially the codec microsoft uses for "wmv-HD" You can use the codec at various resolutions as well😀

just wondering buy why are you using your program so much for the drm? why not use wmp11 to do the store and let it manage the drm (the "import" feature you addressed). for me that would be a MUCH more elegant solution.

Since they're having to negotiate with the studios, being able to say, "We implemented our own secure DRM..." sounds much better than using something that is constantly the target of hacks.

Unless Amazon reaches iTunes sales levels, few hackers will spend time on trying to crack their DRM.

My guess, anyway.

It's the same DRM though....

Ahhh... In that case, nevermind. I had understood it as something new.

😱

Woa! Nice quality! Stargate Atlantis: Rising (1 & 2) looks great!

Cool I am glad you like it. We had discussed it a lot and decided that consumers would like better quality at the expense of a longer download vs. a crappy quality file which was faster to download.

I'm having troubles 🙁

I purchased the videos, and elected to download the program at time of purchase. the program downloaded and installed but does not show or act on my purchased programs...

🙁

until downloading a movie is as unrestrictive as purchasing one, it will never catch one.

but thanks for letting me catch up on prison break.

Absolutely! they will show up in your My Videos section on MCE. I believe it should just play fine while its even downloading.

Ameesh,

I rented 3 Kings last night and left it to download while I was sleeping. I came back, and it's not in the library at all. When I check the online library, it said that it was downloaded. Office Space, which I also rented, is stuck on "100% Allocating Space", and it won't download. Any ideas?

I DL'ed Firefly and it won't play for some reason in the provided player. When I try to use WMP it says it needs an audio codec. I have never had a problem playing media files of any sort before so I don't feel so good about this Amazon thing.

I see that Ameesh is a big time poster on the forum, but is it allowed to do self-promotions of this sort?

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but shouldn't you have to pay like everyone else?

And DRM-laden and buggy (from posts here) and completely overpriced? Sorry, count me out.

I can get HDTV versions of the shows Over The Air for free.

Any plans for a Media Center app? It would be a great Online Spotlight app. I would probably buy twice as much stuff if I could do it from my couch with the remote.

Well I think he's also posted jobs up here (when Amazon have been hiring), so I think it's OK to tell people about a new service when he has offered a service too (a job finding service)

I appreciate the work you've done, and the heads up.

But how is this different from pimping your own site? Why isn't this thread locked? Amazon may be giving away 1 free episode, but it's still a pay per view model. If this were posted by a one-post newbie with the black guy avatar, this thread would have been locked in seconds.

Not that I'm complaining. I own Amazon stock 😉
