was it amazon or some third party?

I've never had a problem with amazon themselves, but I bought a mouse off there two weeks ago... had it shipped overnight but it took them 10 days to actually ship it out :frown: ended up coming from buy.com for some reason.

This. Prime was so worth it. Even just using the free shipping Amazon's always been pretty quick most of the time, never 7 days. Must be my area.

I signed up for Prime when I was buying 3-4 DVDs a month from Amazon. It is fantastic, and has saved me a ton of money. Anything Prime eligible defaults to 2nd day.

Like I said, it's not so much a complaint. Because, as I'm sure you're all too well aware, sometimes when a company quotes a shipping time for a good or service that you order, many times, your purchase comes well before the quoted date.

Disagree, it's pretty fast for me. I have my items in my hands within a week.

But now that I have Prime, I don't really worry about that anymore.

I dont mind the slow transit time, what pisses me off is that they just sit on the orders for spite.

Want proof? I ordered using Super Saver shipping recently. They told me it would arrive on June 30. Here was part of the tracking info:

June 24, 2008 08:36:00 PM WARRENDALE PA Shipment has left seller facility and is in transit
June 27, 2008 10:18:00 PM WARRENDALE PA Arrival Scan

Now Warrendale is only about 15 miles from me. When I saw they shipped from there on June 24, I figured I'd have it the next day. Three days later, it goes back to where it shipped from? What were they doing, driving around the block for three days?

I did receive it on June 30, exactly when they said I would, but I cannot understand how it took 6 days after "shipment" to get the 15 miles to me.

Probably not a conspiracy, kranky. It likely also has loooow priority getting onto the "last-leg" trucks leaving that facility, as well. Every penny counts. Remember, it is no longer in Amazon's control then, but the shippper's. Bottom tier "last-leg" priority is no doubt part of the agreement between those two.

It's not like the shipping prep and transit time are a secret. Before you click the 'place my order' button, you see exactly how long it will take to receive your item depending on your choice.

That being said, use Prime and order from Amazon, not the marketplace bozos.

I can never go back to non Prime. Last week a friend was looking at a UPS for his PC. I added the biggest one I could find to my cart. $17k, 600 pounds, one day delivery for $3.99. Prime ftmfw.

I love Amazon.

I have found those numbers to be very inaccurate. I have had the item in my hand several days before the first "estimated ship date" listed on my order. I know that only helps my case to use the free shipping, but maybe others have found those estimated dates to be too optimistic.

It's really not that optimistic. The USPS is notoriously horrible. It definitely can be delivered early depending on your location. It's always an estimate.

I should slightly modify my wording as well. It was late when I wrote that.

When you order, you'll definitely see how long it will take for delivery.

You need to pay regular shipping to get the same speed as Barnes and Noble's free shipping. I go with Barnes and Noble if the prices aren't much different for just that reason. B&N also allows me to take merchandise back to their physical store and doesn't deduct shipping price. Amazon charges for the free shipping with a return. Bastards.

Not if it's their fault. If it isn't their fault, I don't know why you would expect them to eat the return shipping.

Only if you decide you don't want the item. Return shipping is free is the item is damaged. Hell, you never return any broken glass items.

Bastards is a relative opinion. Bastards compared to whom?

I thought I was the only one that thought of it like that

Nope, me too. I orderd several dvds a few days ago and i always use the free shipping. They don't even expect it to shipp till augst 4th. :) but that may be because 2 items aren't going to be releaseed till the 29th. I don't care, that is why i also told it to group it in one shippment.

I forget about it, start wanting to see something new, and about then the package arives. :)

Yeah, I know, you're all right, I'm not arguing that point. You get what you pay for and all that. It's just that, jeez, I ordered on the 13th, it's not going to ship until the 21st and the estimated delivery date is August 1. That just seems excessive, I think.

The last thing I ordered with Free Super Saver Shipping took 2-3 days to process, but once it shipped, it arrived the next day. I've had things that have taken 2 weeks to ship though and that's quite annoying. When I order books at the start of a quarter for class, I just pay for shipping so that I'll be able to use the book for the quarter.

Come on, buddy.

If you're going to have "Huh...wow. Really?" moment, at least be truthful.

Barnes and Nobel. It's not the return shipping charge that upsets me. It's them taking an initial shipping charge out of the money returned when it was free shipping.
