This should help increase trust in the site.

"While small in number, these reviews can significantly undermine the trust that consumers and the vast majority of sellers and manufacturers place in Amazon, which in turn tarnishes Amazon's brand," the technology giant said in its complaint, which was filed on Friday.

Amazon said it had conducted an investigation, which included purchasing fake customer reviews on Fiverr from people who promised five-star ratings and offered to allow purchasers to write reviews.

It said it had observed fake review sellers attempting to avoid detection by using multiple accounts from unique IP addresses.

Amazon said the lawsuit was not targeting Fiverr, which is not a defendant in the complaint. Fiverr said it was working with Amazon to resolve the issue.

"Amazon is bringing this action to protect its customers from this misconduct, by stopping defendants and uprooting the ecosystem in which they participate," the lawsuit says.

Anyone, whether they are a customer or not, has the ability to review products sold on Amazon's online store, but the rules of the site forbid paid-for or fictional reviews.

BlueBumpkin those sound like paid negative reviews. Do you have a good attorney over there in Kazakhstan?

Amazon is several times better than eBay. I'm glad they are going after the pay-to-review operators that attempt to influence review aggregation that go beyond just Amazon.

search on google how amazon greedy company f*ck they workers for $10/hr .... only mcdonalds maybe worse.

Working in a warehouse, either pulling packages or throwing stock, is generally unpleasant, low paid work. $10/hr to start is typical. (UPS starts theirs at $11, but I think they have a little more of a reputation for being employee-friendly.)

Maybe you should stop buying the goods that are made in China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc. too - - though those people would kill to make $10/hr. Amazon is awesome and you're an idiot.

I made more than that as a temp at Dell in 2005 doing warehouse. I would have thought it hadn't stagnated over 10+ years, but I guess not.

Even with that, Amazon has some of the best customer service in the retail industry. If I am going to shop online, Amazon is my first choice 100% of the time.

I do wish Amazon would allow a filter for "verified purchasers" only in reviews though. They can allow anyone to review, I just don't want to read them unless the person can be verified to actually have the product.

Now if they would crack down on the marketplace sellers.
I got sent some old out of date printer ink from a marketplace seller. Gave him a 1 star review. The guy straight up offered me money to change it to 5 stars. I told him it wasn't going to happen, ever. He kept upping the amount till I finally contacted amazon to stop the harassment. They said they would look into it as its against their TOS. I still check on his account from time to time. He gets 1 or 2 star reviews and suddenly they are gone in a few days.

I gave a product a 5 star review but the company must have mis-clicked to a 1 star review below me- got an email offering free products to remove my review...didn't know companies did that...

And that's the problem with the job market in the US, fuck the workers who make the company go and do anything to increase the shareholders $$. Sadly most of these people wind up needing public assistance and guess who has to pay for that?.

I did this at a walmart distribution center in the late 90s. It was crap work, but they pay was ok and I knew what it was going into it. Sure beats mining coal. One guy and his wife who worked at the DC (distribution center), used to mine coal in Kentucky and said although the pay was lower, it was their dream job because the work was inside and there were safety rules in place that they didn't have in the mine. Funny how one person's crap job is another's dream job.

I love Amazon. It's the best site ever!

I was given a discounted Amazon Gift Card in return for my fair and unbiased review.

I read that they were sending empty envelopes just to create an order on record.

Funny how one person's crap job is another's dream job.

In other words, it's better not to live in the middle of nowhere so there are options.

I guess they're trying to keep their pond clean. Doesn't seem like it will work,

Anything that will make someone think twice about trying this con is a good thing, sure it wont completely stop it, but i think it can at least put a dent in the problem.
