Amazon SUCKS

Amazon's profits are really going to explode when Trump bans memory and drive makers from selling directly to consumers in order to speed up and prioritize AI data centers as some kind of "emergency" so the stock market can go up a point or two. An additional order will allow special discounts on remote PCs hosted virtually on AWS servers that will now be where your computing will take place, and can be accessed with a Firestick, mouse and keyboard.

Feel free to allow all your personal information and data to be harvested and examined by marketers, data brokers, Amazon employees along with AI scanning for anything the state deems illegal today.

Well, two weeks after I made my order, the items finally have tracking numbers (still have not actually shipped) and it says they'll arrive by the 29th.

Amazon apparently now shows the names and faces of the delivery people. I get it, but it feels a little dystopian somehow.

Bought two T-shirts my wife wanted for X-mas from Amazon. They are too small. Odd, we ordered mediums, even though she wears a small, just to be sure they would fit.

So I choose exchange/refund. Turns out the only option is a refund, no exchange. So I called, no help. I'm supposed to get a refund, and place a new order.
Each shirt has went up $1, and it's $34, so I need to pay $10.99 shipping as well. $13 dollars to change sizes.

When did this start? They used to do exchanges, not anymore. Clearly says free return/exchange on all four items I ordered. Checked all of them, no exchange option on any of them.

Glad it was for my wife, and not another relative. She said "fuck that, just return them". Cool.

I'm not an authority on this but Amazon has never done one-for-one exchanges?
I've been buying their stuff since 1998.

I just looked at some jeans I bought a month back, and it says returns are free. But nothing about size exchanges.* How does $10.99 shipping come into play? I drop off Amazon returns locally (usually at the UPS Store) and they pay the freight (even when it's my error, not their's).

It's also hard for me to imagine what T-shirt is worth $34, but I'm a cheap bastard.

Recently ordered a couple $3 items that I don't need. Their system said just keep them and I was refunded the money (+ tax). Costs less for them than an actual return.

* For holiday returns, the exchange verbiage they have is: "FREE refund/replacement until Jan 31, 2026". Maybe that's slightly weasily, but the word exchange is NOT used.

You should read better. It is $34 for TWO T shirts. It was $32 when I ordered them. I also ordered other items, which qualified the order for free shipping. The wording isn't slightly weaselly. If something is TOO small, then the replacement needs to be larger. You are right that it says replacement.

I have done this with shoes before, no problem.

They want me to send them back for refund (free), and make a new order. Since it's LESS than $35, I have to pay $10.99 shipping.
And as stated, not a single item I ordered offers " replacement", the only option is refund once you start the process, even if I choose "wrong item".
It's BS, there is no replacement for anything.

First off, let me be clear by saying I'm not trying to defend Amazon.

My question is did Amazon .com ever support an actual item exchange, one-for-one? If they did in the past, then I'm mistaken. They don't use the word exchange now.
The way they're using the word replacement can feel a little weasily. Some CSRs can make a special accommodation, but I mostly accept some of Amazon's lameness and move on.

Obviously nobody is going to pay $11 extra shipping to exchange two T-shirts.

Shoes might have been a special case as Amazon acquired Zappos in 2009.

You ignored the part where I stated they would not "replace" any of the items I ordered, not even with the same item.
When when I chose "wrong item", or "damaged". Refund was the ONLY option as I progressed through the refund/replace procedure.

So why are they stating free refund or replacement through Jan 31, 2026 on ALL items? Implying great service on gift returns? Is the recipient supposed to eat the extra cost? And I checked gift on every item, it insures they put it in a box.

Amazon sucks.

Amazon has become a shit show here as well. I meant to not use Amazon Prime at all this year, and Amazon barely at all, and managed to do that for the first three months straight. Zero orders. But then I got a free month offer, and succummbed.

Overall in 2025 I ended up with Amazon Prime for 6 of the 12 months, though I have gotten three months free. One was a free month offer from Amazon. The other two free months came from refunds I requested since packages just started showing up late or not at all starting in the fall. So I complained and asked for my Prime membership to be refunded and they did it no questions asked. I have prime now to watch Fallout - my BIL is using my account as well. I had a few small things that were out for delivery last Tuesday, and HDMI extension cable, a USB extension cable, an OLight keychain light, and a keychain pill holkder - that still show they are out for delivery, so I canceled and ordered their replacements.

The replacements for the items that still show they were last out for delivery yesterday - well they were out for delivery yesterday and never arrived and still show as out for delivery as well lol

So I just called customer support, got all those things replaced, and another free month of prime. So that's four free months now. The shipping from my local warehouse has literally just turned into a total shit show. Flip a coin on any given delivery to see if it will actually show up. I live in their largest metro market as well, so there are likely a lot of pissed off customers here.

After Fallout is over I am going to cancel Prime again and attempt to not get it again this year. When the final season of the Boys comes out, I will ask my BIL to get Prime and then share that with me.

Other of my boycotts have been more successful - including things like Hulu (Jilmmy Kimmel) and Spotify. Also, did not go back on FB or Insta, or Bluesky, at all in 2025, after deleting my accounts last January.

I'm returning a pair of jeans ordered on Black Friday.
Turns out that Amazon does support a specific instance of a "replacement" use case for certain returns.
I'm returning for refund; but in the process, they offered an identical replacement option:

Replace with the exact same item
We'll ship you a replacement of the item you ordered, at no extra charge.

Obviously doesn't help if sizing is off and you need to change up/down.

My last couple orders had pretty severe delays, including one I canceled cause it was taking so long. The latter was probably a flaky seller not using amazon's infrastructure. The former might've been do to the weather, but it's the first time delivery dates have been missed. I usually get stuff a good bit before the estimated delivery date.

Just inspired by post in FWP thread about being suspended from Reddit. I tried to review a purchase several years ago on Amazon. It said this account is suspended from making any reviews because they noticed 'suspicious activity'. I hardly ever write reviews, and certainly didn't ever say anything inappropriate. Kind of disturbing since I've had an account for over 25 years now.
I finally started trying to fix it, or at least get an explanation. I tried messaging them, and even got on chat. At least tell me what I allegedly did? I reminded them I had lost control of my account for one week a long time ago, and they helped me get it back. Maybe the problematic review was written by someone who hijacked my account? I talked to at least two people, and it was like "we'll get back to you". Of course they did not.

Amazon Prime membership ended last week, and it was free. I also ended up getting a free $220 cordless vacuum stick, as well as some other free stuff, due to more messed up deliveries. Went out with a bang!

Now just gotta figure out how to watch the final season of The Boys.
