Amazon stops giving refunds when an item's price drops after you purchase it

I saved ~$100 on a price drop once. This is pretty sad news. I guess I'll take my business elsewhere. For some things. Maybe.

Isn't this the norm these days?
There are lots of places that won't give back the difference, like newegg, jet, pretty much all other online stores as well.

Odds are you'd still be able to return the old one and order one at the new price, which is stupid, but there you have it...

It is because of this app.

Wow, cool.
Too bad it won't work anymore.

I have always thought that policy was stupid, even at brick and mortar stores.
I understand it if it is within 7 days or so, but there definitely has to be a short time limit.

With the algorithms of online shopping, it makes no sense to do it at all (from seller standpoint).
They price everything depending on stock, region, timing, demand, etc.

lol, yeah right.
You are going to continue to buy from Amazon in the same capacity.

I said the same thing when they started charging sales tax in Ohio... and I buy more than ever.

You still can't beat their convenience and speed (if you're prime).

The only time I've asked customer service for a price difference was when they dropped the everyday list price of the Kindle 2 a couple of days after I ordered it, before the box arrived. They gave it to me.

They already give you their best price until release on pre-orders, that has saved me a little now and then on blu-rays.

Other than that I don't feel they owe me refunds for price drops after I've ordered a released product, so I don't ask.

Is this thread's title accurate? You cannot return the item *at all* if the price drops after you purchase it?

No, you used to be able to contact Amazon CS and they would credit the delta - not anymore. You can still outright return the item (until they decide to cancel your Amazon account for returning too much...)

Honestly I don't see anything wrong with that. Retail is a cut throat business, it must be a huge burden dealing with people returning stuff all the time for various reasons, some legit, some not so legit. So they can at least cut out the questionable reasons.

Amazon giveths and Amazon taketh away! Or something like that 😀
