Amazon does a lot of stuff right but their sort/filter options suck.

Trying to find a birthday present for my niece who will be turning 8. I go to amazon, select toys and games, select girls, then select ages 8-13.

Most of it's boy stuff - nerf guns, nerf bows, remote control attack helicopter, settlers of catan, lego star wars sets.

WTF? How is that girl stuff? there is next to nothing girl specific.

For the heck of it, I select boys instead of girls and I get basically the same list!

I've gone looking for tools before. you select the type and see tons of the tool you want, but then when you sort by best reviewed, you get nothing related to the product you were searching for!

oh look! under boys I see "Dora the Explorer Backpack Rescue Bag, Purple". come on!!!!

Get her science toys or books. A good magnifying glass, a field guide, a chemistry set, dissectable Barbie.

It's amazons way telling you to stop stereotyping. Why wouldn't nerd gun be a good gift fr a girl.

Don't blame Amazon. Actually Nerf is now targeting girls with their guns. (no pun intended) They've released models specifically designed to appeal to girls.

I am truly amazed by how horrible their sort options are. Ever try sorting by price? The results are anything but sorted. I have utterly given up on using that feature. It's like Amazon intentionally makes their site hard to use and confusing.

Sorting sucks. Amazon is good if you know exactly what you want or dont care what you want.

Anything else you do better on another site and then buying at Amazon.
Newegg is a perfect example.

Amazon has a little of everything, but yeah their sorting system leaves a LOT to be desired. If I have a specific item in mind I can easily find it via search but other than that... o_O

Totally agree. It is awful when you are just trying to browse through for things.

Sometimes the sorting/filtering appears to make no sense if you aren't paying close attention.
Let's say you're looking at watches between $50 and $100 and a watch selling for $105 appears in your search results. Click on that watch and check out the third-party sellers under "more buying choices." One of them is selling it for $95 + $10 shipping, thus making it appear on the list even though Amazon's hawking it for $105.
