Amazon reviewers slam TurboTax fee changes

Interesting... I use TurboTax every year since it imports all my data from the previous year.

Revisions incorporated into Intuit's TurboTax 2008 have led to a bit of a tax revolt by reviewers on Amazon.com.

The tax preparation program, which is a top seller at the online retailer, has garnered an Amazon customer rating of one and a half stars out of five. As of Sunday afternoon, an overwhelming 82 reviewers (out of 90) gave the program the minimum one star, compared with four reviewers who gave it the full five-star rating.

However, it's not the features nor functionality with which the majority of reviewers are taking issue. Many reviewers were upset that Intuit increased the retail price of the software from $44.95 for the 2007 edition to $59.95 for the 2008 edition--a 33 percent price bump.

Most frustrating for reviewers--many of whom identified themselves as longtime TurboTax users--were the revised fees for the number of returns prepared. This year, Intuit began charging users an additional $9.95 for each additional return they prepare, regardless of whether the return is printed or filed electronically.

Been using TaxCut ever since Intuit came out with that ridiculous activation required version. Personally I think it is ridiculous that I have to pay anything to file electronically since I am actually saving the government money by not sending in the paper copy version.

Yup - I switched to TaxAct several years ago after the TurboTax copy protection fiasco and I've never looked back. It works great and is cheaper.

Gonna use Taxact's online deluxe package. Last year I used the free one and it was easy enough, but this year I have a lot more to input, and the overall price is so low.

People sure whine a lot. If you're so broke that you don't have $10 to spare, then maybe you should get a pen and paper and do it yourself. :roll:

I remember several years ago one of those programs automatically checked the box that said "donate kicker to schools" or something on the Oregon returns. Then when everyone else was getting their several hundred dollar checks, they were crying to the state (who predictably told them to pound sand). Too funny!

at least the copy i got from costco didnt have it 🙁

E-filing was free with online version, because you paid more for it. No free e-filing with CD, since you got a 'deal' upfront. So, either way, the cost was the same if you wanted to e-file. Naturally, I printed everything and mailed it in. I am doing government a favor, not the other way around, so I am not paying an extra dime for it.

Considering, that I have to pay $100 for a business TTax federal AND $50 for a state return, I am already giving Intuit way too much money for their sh!tty software.
