I bought a wireless adapter for my computer from Amazon but when I tried it didn't work so I decided to refund it and get something else. I called Amazon customer support and told them my problem and the guy said he would refund the money and I can keep the adapter. I immediately got an e-mail saying a refund was authorized for my credit card for $15. Is this normal? Maybe it was because the adapter was 15$? Anyone else ever experience this?

Yeah it's called Amazon being the best retailer in the history of the world.
Basically this. As i read OPs post before I realized what he was saying I thought he was going to criticize and by default I was about to call him a liar. That's how good their customer service is.

This. Except for the tax issue. They suck for what they are doing on that front in my opinion.

im pretty sure they could handle it, but i cant blame them for not wanting to deal with the hassle of keeping up with regulations/rates/whatever across all the different states.

eventually online sales are going to get taxed one way or another, i expect. ill still probably buy from amazon then. i love amazon. ill enjoy the tax-free purchases while i can

Yeah it's called Amazon being the best retailer in the history of the world.

yep. I bought a book on amazon from a 3rd party retailer. quality was shit, so I filed a complaint. refund no problem, didn't even have to send back the book. I wonder if the seller had any say lol

Amazon always takes care of me whenever I get screwed by a 3rd party. Regardless, I have learned to not shop from Buy.com ever again.

Most times I would shop locally before buying from a third party. And I hate shopping locally.

Amazon always takes care of the customer. That isn't to say they don't have issues sometimes... they do. I had to spend hours on the phone getting an issue fixed once, but they finally got it resolved for me.

I will say it is rare for them to say keep it. Usually they give you a prepaid label to return it.

Glass items that break during shipping are never returned. They simply send out a replacement and tell you to do whatever with the broken stuff.

Every time I've had to return something I've gotten excellent customer service from Amazon. I once got a plasma TV that showed up with the glass broken. They shipped the new one out and paid to have the broken one picked up, no questions, not even asking how it broke (like, if I had dropped it).

wow I feel bad, I bought a lap top that was DOA, went thru the online return. They did send me a new lap top even before they received the dead laptop. I had to pay for shipping the item back. I guess if I went thru the phone process they may have offered to pay for shipping back.

Just renewed my Prime membership today due to this kind of outstanding CS.

I got an email a couple days ago saying that my student prime would expire on xx date, and that between now and then I could extend for only $39 I think

You must have selected the wrong return reason. If you select that it is defective they will pay return shipping (even doing it online) and will charge charge shipping if you pick you just don't want it. It has been that way since... well as long as I can remember.
