That's nothing new. There's been a couple of times over the past few years where I ordered something critical on friday, and overnighted it for $9 on saturday. Usually arrives via fedex, whereas the standard prime 2 day shipments arrive via UPS.

I've never had to pay that much. In fact, for the longest time, the website would always say "Do you want this item on Saturday <date>? Order in <time> and choose One-Day Shipping at checkout!" This is the first time that I've ever seen a specific Saturday option, and I've been a Prime member for years.

I've also received a few Saturday items, and I only paid the $3.99 for one-day shipping.

Their items usually ship USPS, there is no saturday delivery fee.

I've had all items delivered on Saturday come via UPS or Fedex.

EDIT:

They also now have the Instant Streaming on the XBox 360.

To note, this is a free Gold weekend, which means you can use streaming even if you're not a XBOX Live Gold member.

*shrug* Perhaps it's location based? Always been $8.99 for saturday delivery for me.

I just saw the Saturday delivery option yesterday as well, it was new to me. Whatever, will have my goodies on Tuesday without leaving the house MWAHAHAH.

Also, the free Super Saver shipping is okay, but it's not 2 day, and that minimum kills it for convenience.

If you already have a Netflix account but don't buy a lot of stuff from Amazon or online, is it still worth it for the "free" Prime Instant account?

Not really, I felt like Netflix had move streaming content. That might just be on Amazon, they mix in paid content as well. However, I have Student Prime for $40/year, hard to beat that since I do buy quite often from Amazon.

Prime is great. Vs Netflix streaming its pretty comparable, not quite as good imo. What I do like is I can rent something new pretty cheaply, and don't have to run out to a redbox, wasting gas and time. It is especially great for students at $39 per year.

No.

Amazon Prime comes out cheaper in the end, but you have to pay outright $80 for it. The free selection in videos is OK, but there's quite a bit of overlap with Netflix. There might be some exclusive stuff, but of course that's up to you if it's worth it or not. Not only that, Netflix streaming is ubiquitous on just about everything. Prime streaming is getting there though.

Basically, it comes down to this. If you (or will in the future) buy a lot from Amazon, then it's a no brainer. If not, stick with netflix. It seems like you've already answered your question though.

No

Well... maybe.

Amazon is behind on tv shows, slowly gaining a lead on movies. But the free shipping is what it's really created for

Amazon free streaming movies are infinitely worse than Netflix with a comically bad selection but the two da shipping alone makes it worth it.

Yet another no vote, and I have both. Get Prime for the shipping, the free video selection is much weaker than Netflix.

I've watched a couple of free TV episodes to try the quality, and it was about the same or maybe a little worse than Netflix.

I don't have cable, so I mostly use it for those rare times when I want to see some or all of a show before it reaches DVD or free streaming. But at $2 / episode for SD quality I usually just wait instead.

Warning: the current seasons of most shows will show up if you search Amazon instant video. Those episodes are not free with Prime, they still cost $2/episode SD or $3/HD.

I honestly could care less about the streaming, my LG 3D tv has the built in app for it and i never use it.

However i am postive i save more in sales tax (80) a year, and free 2nd day shipping is awesome. I have had it for 2 years now and will renew for the third for sure.

I got it mainly for the 2-day shipping, versus the "get it sometime this year" Super-Saver shipping.
The streaming video feature is purely a bonus. Good thing, too - the quality of the stuff I've seen isn't terribly good, and it will usually become unable to read the stream after about 40-60 minutes into something, requiring that the page be reloaded.

Now NewEgg needs to integrate their shipping services with Amazon. They need to keep their own site interface and all that, mainly the filtering tools and product pictures, but get on-board with Amazon so that it's all Prime-Eligible. 😀

How much less could you care?
