Be sure to note that it's for Paid subscriptions only, not for the freebie version for college students, etc.

wait, wait, wait. for $79/yr you get two-day free shipping and unlimited streaming of amazon's entire streaming library?

this should probably be in the HD forum too i think.

The selection they have doesn't make it worth $79. I'll stick with Netflix thanks.

Haha I was unaware that a Netflix membership also gave you free 2 day shipping on every order from Amazon! That's amazing! ;)

The main benefit of Prime continues to be the shipping deal - but for no extra cost, this sure as hell is a nice addition.

no for the movie selection alone its not worth $79. I use Amazon a ton so the 2 day free shipping is where my main benefit is. This is just an great no cost added feature is all.

I agree, I wouldn't sign up for Amazon Prime just for streaming movies... but it's a cool way to build awareness of their product.

I share amazon prime with 4 other people splitting the cost, this is a fantastic deal.

I order from amazon maybe twice, thrice a year tops. Usually around xmas. I'm not impatient enough to pay for 2 day shipping when I can get their regular shipping for free. And compared to Netflix's streaming library (plus the benefit of getting physical discs for a marginal price), Amazon's offering is currently meh.

That's how I used to be....until I got Prime. Now that I get two day shipping on everything, I order from Amazon all the time. Plus, since there's a DC in my area, a lot of the "2 day" stuff comes in one, or I have the option to upgrade to "express delivery" for $3.99 - delivered the same day as ordered. Pretty sweet.

I read about this as a rumor on Engadget a week or two ago, glad to see it out.

I think the competition with Netflix will only make things better for us consumers and should broaden the available titles :)

Netflix is 95.88 a year for just streaming where Amazon is $79 a year with free two-day shipping on most items. Is it even a contest? Later Netflix.

Sucks. I have Prime but it says that I have to upgrade to get this. I "ONLY" get the 2-day and 3.99 one day shipping, not the movies. WTF that sucks.

How are people streaming to their TV's? I don't think netflix is going to lose all that many customers over something like this since everyone I know who is using Netflix has it built into a device (TV, DVD, Xbox, Wii, PS3, etc.). Are you people that are leaving Netflix using an HTPC, or just watching on your computer?

I could have sworn my tivo had an amazon streaming thing.

not that I'd leave netflix... for me, netflix is like 75% about the dvd's and 25% streaming. most of the movies that I watch aren't available on instant.

Sweet :) I already have been using Prime for past 2 years to my benefit, this just sweetens the deal.

They've got an interesting selection.

I'm using an HTPC in the living room and for my rec room a netbook hooked up to the tv.
