Amazon Prime went up $20 a year, but now we are getting a free streaming music service. Though there are some catches. Apparently it's missing the biggest music label, Universal, they are still working on getting them on board. And no new music, there is a 6 month waiting period before new music will be available on Prime Music. So I guess I won't be canceling my Google Music subscription anytime soon.

I've been using Prime Music on this website this morning. It need some work, but they got a lot of good music there and I like their pre-made playlists a LOT more than Google Music's user made shared lists.

The website needs a lot of work. For some reason the Prime Music library opens on one tab and the Prime Music player opens in a separate tab. So I have to bounce between tabs when I'm browsing and playing music, that seems like a weird thing. Also I seem to always have to click on Add Playlist To Library more than once. The first click creates the Playlist in the Library, but it's empty, so I have to click it again for the songs to show up.

Overall it's not bad. I wouldn't exactly call it free, since our subscription price went up $20 a year. But still, it's less than $2 a month in a way.

I'm really wondering how long I'll be able to hold onto my Zune and the Xbox service. It seems like as far as the portability goes, it died when the ZuneHD died. Is it possible to use Zune/Xbox music on an android?

I don't know why you're still using a Zune. The Zune subscriptions carry over to Xbox Music. I presume you're talking about the $10/mo plan where you also got purchase credit for 10 songs a month? That plan should still work fine.

As for Prime Music. It's interesting. I don't mind the six month wait. But they're missing just a ton of stuff. I went searching for a few songs this morning and couldn't find any of them.

I would also not be appreciative of my Prime membership price increasing to support stuff like this. It's less than $10mo still but if it comes up over that I'll have to seriously evaluate if it's worth keeping around.

My Prime was just renewed. Yeah - it went up, and I was invited to use Prime Music. No thanks - I have hundreds of Cds and videos (traditional jazz) all ripped to my digital collection. Prime music has nothing I want, let alone need. The best thing it does for me is books for my 2 Kindles. The one-click shopping is handy.

Great addition to the Prime family! There's no FireTV client yet, though. At least not this morning. Play Store client update finally got to me and I was able to access it from my phone now.

The UI is somewhat of a mess, but Amazon isn't exactly recognized for their flawless UI (see: Prime Instant Video from a desktop browser).

I searched with some random keywords a couple of times and I could barely find anything (mostly searching music from the 90s), so the library is still extremely limited compared to Spotify (where they're all available). But still, it's free (considering I'm paying for Prime anyway), and options are always good. Plus, it could only get better.

I'm thinking this is best for phones (where Spotify Free could only play on shuffle mode), while if I'm at home and on the tablet it's still better to just use Spotify (I could cast it to Chromecast too, with Spoticast).

It's not an invitation. If you've already renewed your Prime then you get this by default. It's included in your Prime subscription.

Unfortunately if I can't download music, and put it on my mp3 player it's useless to me. Quite often I run or bike where there is no cell signal etc. so I need my music to be on my player. Streaming music is only good at home or work.

That's what I get for living in the sticks, but it's still better than living in the big city.

You can download the Prime Music tracks to your phone and listen to them while offline.

So now I have Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Pandora & Xbox Music subscriptions. My streaming opportunities are boundless. Ironically I mostly use Nokia Music for free on my phone because it's so much easier\better for new music than Xbox Music.

Sorry - I was not clear. I know I CAN get it, but, no way will I actually even look at it. They don't have OKOM. :)

If this is the stuff Amazon is using the increase in subscription price for, then I probably won't be renewing. All I care about is the fast and free shipping.

Fair enough. The selection sucks for me at the moment as well.

I noticed something though, the search comes up with a lot more stuff (that I was looking for) if I searched for 'songs' instead of 'albums' (with the same keywords). Apparently a lot of albums that I was looking for have one or two tracks that are not available for Prime, while the rest of the tracks are. These will show up under 'songs', but not under 'albums'.

the Zune and Zune software/subscription was awesome. except Microsoft never marketed them.

but after Google Play Music came out after a few months i just ended up selling my zune 64 and 32gb. now my nexus 5 and downloaded offline music playlists from Google Play Music is all i need.

Actually it was more just too far ahead of the market, I can remember the PA guys cracking wise about how you pay for your music forever, and if you stop paying it's like shooting your favorite bands.

Funny how everyone and their grandmother seem to have streaming subscriptions now...

On Topic: Call me when they have a WP8.1 client. If MS can't get the Xbox Music app working right I could be induced to use it on my phone.

Does this mean that I should cancel Google play music subscription? I suppose Amazon' catalog is at least as big as Google Play subscription.

Not even close. It's like 20-30 millions songs for the major services and Amazon has under 2 million I believe.

Yeah, huge gaps in Amazon's library, they don't have the biggest label. Apparently they can't add new music until 6 months after release. And worst of all the web app and Android apps are just nothing short of horrible.

It's nice because it's tossed into the Amazon Prime subscription for free. Kinda helps me feel a little better about the price increase. But I definitely won't be canceling Google All Access.

No I didn't. I was under the influence last night and made quite a few silly posts.
