Amazon Prime for $72

Yep, same here. Way to screw over your present membership, Amazon. 🙄

I think I'm going to complain, because I think this is BS.

New users only?

My Amazon Prime membership expires January 28th and I've been putting off renewing. I wonder if I could talk a customer service rep into it.

From what I've seen, you can buy a gift membership and send it yourself and redeem it once your prime subscription is over (cancelling the Auto renew beforehand).

I also read some comments posted last evening where someone said they recently renewed for $99 and chatted with a CSR who credited them $27. Certainly worth a try if you've renewed recently.

I wonder if this is because they are testing to see if the price of $72 vs $99 will net them more prime members? I know a bunch of people who canceled (me also being one of them) because they raised the price to $99.

I'm not sure that there is a critical pricepoint. People love a bargain. If it normally cost $72 then they'll jump on $50. Etc...

Well, I'm giving the gift-yourself-Amazon-Prime for $72 a try. I've placed order and just received the gift email.

I'll end my Prime membership on the 27th or 28th, then try to redeem the gift. Worse thing that can happen is that the $72 becomes an Amazon gift certificate, so it doesn't cost anything to try.

I just bitched and got $27 back. :awe:

Probably going to try the gift myself a Prime membership trick, too.

thanks for this thread. I'd seen this earlier but forgot about it when I got back home. This thread reminded me. Did the gift renewal @ $72

Definitely worth it, even @ $99 (8.25 monthly) I just wish Amazon HAD monthly billing instead of one big hit each year..

It's nothing new. Been like that for as long as remember.
