Amazon now sells Xbox Live content

New feature launched on Amazon.com. You can purchase codes for any of the XBL games for use on your console. Seems odd since you can do this on Xbox.com, but I see two benefits:

1) No more fooling around with XBL points and odd point balances. Just buy the game directly for the retail price.
2) Potential to start seeing some discounts on XBL content courtesy of Amazon--this would be very cool if they are able to do so.

Choose from arcade games, points, or subscriptions as a great gift for any gamer. Give a subscription so they can play online against other gamers, arcade games (from retro classics to the newest hits), or points so they can download the latest DLC. Points can even be used to download the hottest movies and tv shows. Give the gift of LIVE and give the gift of entertainment.

Also, how buying works:

You will be able to get your Xbox LIVE online game code immediately after purchase. Enter your code through either your Xbox 360 console or Xbox.com and enjoy. You can also gift your online game code after purchase via e-mail.

interesting......

this could be great if amazon puts the xbl cards or points cards on sale. get a digital code instantly?

Wow, that is amazing! If they offer the full marketplace on Amazon, that would make buying things on XBOX Live so much better! Just like you said, no fiddling around with silly MS points!

I finally got my account down to zero MS points too...no easy feat, let me tell you! 😉

That is good. Being able to buy the games without having to first buy the points which puts you at an odd number is a boon. That is one of my biggest hangups.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they are running the same promotions as Live Marketplace is running. Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 1 is currently 50% off this week but it shows up as full price on Amazon. Amazon will probably run their own promotions though. Target has been known to sell cards with game codes on them for cheap.

edit: Also looks like they don't have the most recent releases to XBL. The most recent release on Amazon came out two weeks ago on XBL (Peggle).

Yeah, the prices seem high for some things.

Also, you can see that the code for 12+1 months of XBL is $49.99 at Amazon, the card that does the same is like $38.99.

Yeah, it just launched so I don't expect too much, but hopefully they can start to offer some serious discounts and make new releases available as soon as they're up on XBL. There's a lot of potential here.

I wonder how they were able to do this and if MS has any say in what they can discount and when.

I just checked it out. It looks good, but...does it have DLC? I didn't take much time to look, but I was unable to find the RE5 VS DLC, for example.

No DLC...yet. 😉

Only MS points, XBL Gold subscriptions, and XBLA games are available at the moment.

The MS Points had kept me from buying a few games recently because I was so tired of dealing with the hassle of getting my points down to 0. This is such a great alternative and I'll gladly use it over Microsoft's system.

This is awesome. As a Prime member I only ask for gift certificates to Amazon and now I can use them on XBL games.

Wasn't any for me. Might depend on where you live but seeing as how we are both from Atlanta, you should be good.

Looks like we have our first Amazon deal; Galaga Legions is only $4.97 through Amazon instead of $10 (800 points).

Hopefully this is the first of many Amazon discounts.

Odd that Microsoft agreed to do this, I know that Microsoft likely gets most of the revenue from it, but still...

One of two things. Either A) they think there's enough people who hate MS points and think this sort of thing might pick up more people or B) they assume that the sheer amount of people who will go this route will boost their profits enough to make it worth dealing with Amazon.

Yeah yeah, stating the obvious I know, but still.

Doom, Pac-Man CE, Geometry Wars Evolved, and Undertow have all been discounted on Amazon.

Shhh. Don't post hot deals or else the thread will get locked.

I jumped on DOOM last night--why not for only $2.97? Looks like it has 4-player co-op as well. The code is emailed to you, but it is also displayed on screen as soon as you check out. Pretty painless process.

Also, Geometry Wars Evolved is not discounted. Amazon is just being misleading with an incorrect List Price. It's 400 MS points on XBL.
