It used to be that when you ordered a physical CD, they would also give you the mp3 version for free.

Did they stop doing this, or is it only on certain CDs or is there some other conditions?

The CD I pre-ordered but I am told it shipped. I have not received the MP3 version. CD should be here tomorrow according to to tracking info (USPS).

AutoRip - who cares? I'll rip it myself.

I'd rather they ship me the CD in the mail for free, after I buy the mp3 album. That way I get my music immediately, though I'd ditch it once I had the cd ripped.

i have bought a few CDs cheaper than the mp3 album, ripped the cd, and thrown it away

The last CD I bought on Amazon (2 weeks ago) did not come with the mp3s. Sometimes I like getting them to listen before the disc arrives. After that, I delete them. I rip all my CDs in flac.

They do not release the actual MP3's until the pre-order actually launches, not when it ships. I often get a new newly released CD before it's launch date since they ship from Tennessee.

That's the way to go. If they get carried away pricing the digital album, I pick cd every time. Used or not. Why buy digital when I can have a physical copy for a tad more, or same price, or less? I keep them though.

I get suckered into buying digital albums when I've bought a couple tracks already (surefire winners) and then Amazon offers me the rest of the album for a low, low $3 or so. If I take the bait and the entire album proves to be good I'll be wishing I'd bought the cd version. :\

From what I can recall, it was only on certain CDs, not anything you buy.

Though there might have been a period where they did offer it on all CDs, but not sure.

Amazon has to have a license from the record company to offer it. If you see the AutoRip logo on the order page then they do. If you don't, they probably can't give it to you.
