I ordered some silverware off Amazon a few days ago. It arrived and a few of the pieces were scratched (not from shipping).

I went on Amazon's site, typed in my phone number, and 3 seconds later a real live person that spoke normal English called me. I didn't have to wade through a maze of phone menus, waiting in a queue, or deal with getting hung up on. They didn't hassle me at all and said they would send out a replacement set immediately with a return prepaid shipping label.

Good customer service FTW

Amazon has made good on a couple of broken items for my dad in the past. He ordered a superautomatic espresso machine as a gift for my aunt and uncle, and it showed up broken. They immediately overnighted a cross-shipment and a return label for the broken machine, no questions asked. I think there were problems with another one he ordered for himself too, and that got resolved immediately.

Amazon isn't always the cheapest, but they're competitive and they do take care of their customers. I tend to buy from them if they're in the ballpark on price for that reason.

I had a rather crappy experience with Amazon, albeit it was not entirely their fault. Their customer service is only helpful to the extent of their duties, there really is NO way to contact Amazon directly if you have a serious issue. I was out $200 for about 2 weeks because of their lack of internal communication.

I used that "Call Me Now" feature last December when they cut their price on the HDTV I bought from them about three weeks prior. The call took about seven minutes and three minutes later I received an email confirming the $130 credit to my card.

Excellent CSR and a good policy.

They are VERY lenient on their price adjustments, even outside the official 30 days they say they'll adjust within.

They've adjusted two things for me at 5+ weeks.

Very good to know. I'm gonna get an Oppo 981 from them this summer.

i have nothing but great things to say about Amazon. it's nice to have a company actually give you the benefit of the doubt.

when you do have to replace an item b/c of damage they mail the replacement out BEFORE they receive the returned item and they send it to you express shipping. how many other e-tailers or retailers can you say that about?
