If speedy delivery, a subscription music and video service wasn't good enough, Amazon is now throwing another sweetener in to convince you to sign up to Prime. The retailer has announced that it'll offer Prime subscribers unlimited photo storage in the company's cloud drive. According to the release, users will be able to upload their collections in full resolution to ensure that their image is always protected. As well as the company's own smartphone and tablets, the service will work on iOS and Android devices, and the snaps can be accessed with a variety of hardware including the Fire TV, Stick, PS3, PS4 and, presumably, any device that can already access the company's other online attractions.

* Free for Prime members
* Works on iOS & Android
* Full resolution photos
* Unlimited storage
* Accessible on hardware such as Fire TV & Playstations

Bye bye iCloud! :awe:

I just wish Google would allow us to upload photos to Google drive automatically without needing Google+.

I use a third party app for it, but damn, that's still annoying.

Why?

It's not like amazon don't need you to have an amazon account, Microsoft don't need you to have a Microsoft account and apple don't need you to have an apple account.

Because Google+ is different than having a Google account. Google+ is Google's version of Facebook, which I personally don't like. I get bombarded with sign-up stuff all the time. I'd like to have my Google (Gmail) account & just use Drive that way without having to get sucked into G+.

This captures my feelings on this too. I don't mind creating accounts to be able to use cloud services - I mean they need some way to uniquely identify people and making a unique account makes about as much sense as anything. But I just want to have an account, not be squeezed into Google's Facebook-competing eco-system. I don't use Facebook, I don't use Twitter, and I don't want to use Google+ just to do simple things like upload photos to the cloud, put videos on YouTube, or review apps in the appstore. I don't want things automatically shared on Google+, or reminders of sign-up options. I can honestly say that my general dislike of Google+ has me gradually moving away from using Google for anything except search and gmail.

I thought I read awhile ago they were going to un-integrate the photo upload from G+.
It is sort of annoying but I too found a really slick workaround, my pics from devices go to G+, Drive, and to my NAS all instantly.

You can just use google+ as a log in, you don't HAVE to use all the services that it offers.

This.

The one and only thing I use Google+ for is photo uploads, and it does that job quite well and doesn't ever bug me about anything else.

It's nice to see this from Amazon, but I'm assuming there's some fine print restrictions somewhere? Google also does unlimited backup but that's only if you use their max resolution for instance.

What happens if you stop paying for Prime?

Well that one is obvious. :p

Videos count towards your storage cap, photos do not.

I personally will be sticking with Dropbox. It houses (one copy) of all my photos, videos, and music, but also any and all random files I want to save, in addition to encyrpted backups of various systems. I also have Plex cloud sync hooked to Dropbox for about half of my library. When I can do all of this at fairly good speeds with another provider, I will happily give them some consideration.

I really wish Amazon would launch two versions of Prime, one that is just the shipping benefit, and the other can have everything else. Thankfully I was able to snag a Student account so Prime costs half as much for me. I don't use Prime for anything other than the shipping.
