Amazon FireTV

This is especially annoying when there isn't a software reboot available

Hold the select button (middle of the circle) and home or play (can't remember which one). It'll force a reboot.

Must admit I've not had any major problems myself. I get the odd problem with the BBC Iplayer but it's pretty infrequent. I'm pretty happy with it, I may get round to installing a less amazon centric launcher but apart from that it's been fairly solid.

No problem here with the Fire TV. Sure it hangs once in a while, but no more than once a month, and I say it's par for the course for device like this. And for those of you complaining about videos being choppy and stutters, I hope you're not connecting through wifi.

I like mine, so much so that I bought a second for the bedroom and a Fire TV stick for one of the kids rooms. I haven't have any real issues with it. Only problem is no reset in the software. Went through a bad series of routers and every time I changed the wired one had to be reset. I'm not crazy about the interface as a whole but it's not horrible but prefer the Apple TV in whole interface wise. For what's on the market at the moment it's easily the best for me. I tried Roku and did't care for it.

I've got mine on wifi, and it was near instant loads and the ff/rv buttons worked about as quick as a hardwired stream.

still haven't found a way to enter prime content into the kid zone though. kinda sucks that every other version of prime can easily restrict by rating but the tv box/stick can't.

My fire stick plays media via Plex, and Pluto TV no problems. Might want to check the network...wireless networks are super convenient but man can they have some screwy problems sometimes

Anyone have a problem with the Netflix app requiring you to frequently re-login? I have this problem with both the Fire TV and Fire Stick. It happens at least once a week, even more frequently with the Fire Stick. It's very annoying. I no longer use either of these devices and just move my Roku 3 around the house (not a big fan of my Apple TV or Chromecast either).

I'm desperately waiting for the Roku 4 to come out.

Never had that issue with any of mine.

I don't think you guys are understanding what I'm saying about the choppy playback. It's not network related; it's not a buffering issue. Basically, it just doesn't render smoothly, as if it's intermittently skipping frames. If you search Google, you will find that many people are experiencing the same problems. My FireTV is connected via Ethernet, by the way.

While not as slick looking as the Fire TV, my Roku 3 plays everything perfectly, without any choppiness, on wifi. The refresh rate is also stuck at 60hz, like the FireTV, but at least the video playback is consistent.

I'm also awaiting the Roku 4.

Haven't used netflix on the fire, but have seen it on some tablets have a regular occurence of forgetting the login info.

Lol, gotta love offshore amazon support. Send them an email that I can't find the setting to restrict by rating. First response is basically a copy of the fire tv faq for the setting menu. I respond that those are correct, but where do you access the setting to restrict by rating. I then get a response of the link to your account settings that normally would be where you would make the adjustment. Except that the last sentence of the paragraph for that section states this setting does not apply to fire tv, it must be done on the device itself. So I respond with that sentence they omitted to read and their next response is I should call them.

Meh, I'm selling my Fire TV stick. This thing isn't very useful IMO unless you love using Amazon services, which I don't.

I'm actually impressed with the Fire TV stick. I don't use Netflix or Amazon Prime streaming. But I use Plex and XBMC/Kodi and both work pretty well. It's worth the $20 I paid. It's not that different from Fire TV I used.

They work fine, but I'm not a fan of the "workaround" feeling that all those services had.

Thanks. I'll try it out. I started using Yatse on your recommendation and it's awesome. It's the perfect remote for my OpenELEC Chromeboxes.

Hey no problem. SPMC is nice for being in the Play Store so you get automatic updates. That is the point, to not risk putting Kodi in Play yet.

Also be sure to update your Openelec to the newest version, it has some great Intel driver work built in. Glad you like Yatse!
