How do the Amazon Game Downloads work? I understand that they use the Amazon Digital downloader or something like that, but do they need a specific Amazon client to run all the time for playing the game?

Thanks.

No. It just downloads the installation files. No additional DRM is installed, and no background program like Steam will run.

Some of the older games you just straight download off their site and some you use the downloader for, but as mentioned the downloader doesn't need to always be running.

Many of the Amazon games are actually Steam games. You will need Steam installed. It will state so in the system requirements.

Yup, Amazon is probably the best quality service but they dont have the selection Steam does, nor do they have super awesome package deals.

During Black Friday, I would say they had better prices game for game than Steam, but yeah, not as big a selection. I really like the service, although just like Steam, I bought a bunch of games and didnt download or install them yet.

This year Amazon has been blowing Steam away on pricing. Deus Ex for $10? Bought. Shogun: Total War 2 for $7? Bought two. Sonic Generations for $15.

Deus Ex has routinely been under 10 dollars at Steam. And frequently 3.33 to 5.00.

They've impressed me with their Winter Sale deals. I put a bunch of money in my Steam Wallet but at least half my deals have been on Amazon. GMG has had a few good deals also.

DAO Ultimate is $7.50. Being bioware kinda makes it a pain to install, though.

Works fine for me.

And I prefer Amazon's download over Steam's. The reason is that all games are individually installed into their own path. You can move individual games to different drives, or to backup, instead of having to deal with the whole steam folder containing all your games back to the beginning of time.
