Amazon does not provide specific model reviews any more?

You can't choose a particular AC1200, AC2100 or AC3000 model The only choice is Top Reviews or Most Recent.
You have to scroll down to and click "see all 593 reviews" which will give you more sorting options. The one you want is under the "all formats" box. Just be aware that you'll have to choose the correct product first (like the ac2100 model) ;)

Thanks! I completely forgot this!

Worse is there is no distinction between versions. So if a router switch soc, you see all the glowing review for Broadcom chip, then get the one with realtek...

It's like how every movie review is split between DVD, Blu, 4K and Amazon stream. Super lame.

Amazon sucks harder than a top of the line Electrolux.

Yup.
  1. Co-mingling of inventory encourages fraud
  2. Mixed reviews make it difficult to see review you want at a glance
  3. No way to filter out sellers who are drop shipping outside the US without limiting it to prime (which encourages #1)
  4. No vetting of marketplace sellers so someone who is shut down for fraud will be back the next day under a new name.
  5. No way to filter out the chinese garbage from products you'd see at a real store. It a real problem looking at clothing with their weird sizes.
For all of this I get to pay a yearly fee AND sales tax.

Yeah, super frustrating, especially because one product line can be amazing & another can be absolute garbage.

I find it amazing how lousy Amazon's site is considering how long it's been around and how rich a company they must be. The search function is crap, the options for filtering and ordering results are inadaquate, and many, many products across different categories don't tell you crucial information (not that anyone but me ever buys cds any more, but again and again Amazon won't tell you the track-listing, to take but one example).
And, yeah, they also mix up user reviews for different products (ones which Amazon decides are 'similar' but which in reality are not at all).

Ebay's not a lot better. I don't quite understand why competition doesn't oblige both of them to improve their websites. I guess website design is not a critical part of why they dominate.

Yeah, for computer parts, I typically use Newegg to figure out what I want & then buy it on Amazon because of the convenience in ordering, fast shipping, and return policy.

Amazon needs to step up their sorting game.

Well you know with a company like amazon, the choice is very intentional. Its not like its something they just didn't consider. They have a gaggle of MBA running around doing analysis on all of this.

  • Crap filtering probably means they can direct you to their most profitable options. Amazon choice mostly amounts to "least returns" not that its really any good.
  • Aggregating reviews is probably done since people are less likely to trust a product with fewer reviews.
  • A lot weird choices in grouping are probably marketplace vendor driven. Vetting listings would cost money.
  • The co-mingling of inventory means that 2day shipping is possible for a lot more stuff, or they can use a much cheaper shipping option.
About the only thing amazon really has going for it anymore is they still have a really solid return policy so if you're pretty unsure about a product it is much easier to deal with them than most 3rd party sites. They have the leverage to force refunds, etc.

Some listings, if they consist of different versions of the same product (like these GoT banners) will have the review tagged with the product version the reviewer received (e.g. House Clegane).
AND, if there's a "See all reviews..." link on the primary listing page ...
seeallreviews.jpg
... you can click that to get to the specific "Customer Reviews" page where you will see some FILTER and sort options. The "All Formats" dropdown list will allow filtering based on the current banner you selected on the listing page.
So here, in my example, I can filter all reviews so they show only reviews for the House Clegane banner. (which is the banner I selected before clicking the "see all reviews" link)

I just noticed this option recently. Not sure how long ago it was implemented - but it's about time.

I hate that crap too, it's not just Amazon but most sites. Problem is products have such a short life cycle these days that rather than discontinuing and having a new product ID they just reuse the same product ID but there might actually be like 10 different versions of that product. But it is especially bad with Amazon as sometimes the product is going to be very different than the last one. It's not uncommon to see a product with certain specs but the actual one you get is a "newer version" and the specs are different.

Reminds me of how lot of products will also use 1 instruction manual that covers like 50 different products. I hate that crap so much. "If your version has this feature...". How about actually making a set of instruction for "my" version instead of just making me guess everything.

Yah, its gotten to the point where you have to sort by most recent even if its one SKU. I've seen so many issues where they did a cost reduction revision and it ruined the product.
