Didn't expect this. I really doubt they'll get any of the original cast, but the original creators are involved..so who knows it might have a chance at not sucking. Might be interesting if they can pull it off. Still love this movie.

The Galaxy Quest crew has found a new home.
Amazon Studios is developing a series based on the beloved 1999 cult sci-fi hit, EW has learned exclusively.
The streaming outlet is partnering with producer Paramount Television on the project. Last April, media outlets reported that Paramount was shopping a Galaxy Quest title to prospective buyers.
Unlike many high-concept movies, the story behind Galaxy Quest seems as suitable for a TV series as it was for a theatrical film. The original premise: The cast of a cheesy-yet-endearing Star Trek-like series find themselves abducted and forced to run a real starship by a race of embattled aliens that mistook their show for a documentary.
The show’s development is at an early stage. It’s not clear if members of the film’s cast will be sought for the show, or if the series will be a complete reboot. The film had some major (and tough to get) names among the NSEA Protector crew—including Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen, Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell.
Behind the camera, however, the crew is very much the same. The film’s co-writer Robert Gordon will pen the script and executive produce the pilot. The film’s director Dean Parisot will direct and executive produce. And executive producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein are on board as well. (You might say they never gave up, never surrendered).
If Galaxy Quest is officially greenlit to pilot and then to series, the project will be the latest movie-to-TV adaption to hit the small screen. Next season there’s CBS’ Rush Hour and Limitless, and Fox’s Minority Report, to name but a few in the pipeline.

I like Galaxy Quest, so I'd give it a try. They need someone like Tim Allen and Alan Rickman though. They were so great in their parts.

so they're doing a TV series that is a parody of Star Trek?

I'm not sure it will work. Especially without the actors.

I haven't seen the movie, but I plan to watch it.

It's excellent, one of our family favorites. It's a spoof on Star Trek, basically what happens after they all retire & are doing conventions, and then turns into an actual sci-fi movie. Lots of quotable lines

Seems like some of the gags would get old fast. "I'm crewman #6! I don't even have a last name, because I'm going to die five minutes in!"

But, I look forward to seeing the first episode or so.

They might be able to flesh it out...recover the spaceship & use the tech to build more, then put the crew out in space against other various aliens. It wouldn't depend on the story so much as the casting...they'd need an awfully good team to replace the original crew.

They cut out a lot of make it family friendly though. Tony Shalhoub's character was supposed to be super high all the time, which is why he took everything in stride. It was slated to be R rated by got cut down.

Even then, it was a great movie. It poked fun at the super fandom of series, poked fun at washed up actors, and pokes fun at the whole scifi genre.

I'm curious if they aren't planning on making the actual TV show rather than a continuation of the movie and or what happens behind the scenes. Hard to tell at this point.

Also, what Smackababy said, once you know what it was supposed to really be, it explains some things that seemed a bit odd. Plus the really bad overdub of Sigourney Weavers.

I think it will be based on the movie, but with more missions. A bunch of washed up actors fumbling through missions based on the TV show they don't really give a crap about.

Lucky you, your in for a treat, the casting is spot-on, the humor is beyond mere sight-gags with a great script and the special effects are well done, I GUARANTEE you will love this movie.

I was hoping for a rock paper scissors joke there with the aliens making some insane gadget to fit rules of the game.

I highly doubt they are going to get Tim Allen - isn't he still filming Last Man Standing which is also an excellent show? That would be awesome though. Same with Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shaloub and Sam Rockwell - these are not people very likely to sign on with such an ensemble cast when they could be making movies or starring in their own shows. I think Daryl Mitchell is on one of the many NCIS or Law & Order. Missi Pyle is making movies right and left, and Enrico Colantoni has been very successful in series - although maybe this show will pre-date the movie?

Nonetheless, we absolutely love the movie so I'll certainly be interested in what they can do with a series, especially if it's funny, slightly campy and doesn't take itself as seriously as Star Trek.

Not sure if you saw me mention it in the '[SyFy] Dark Matter' thread, but Yahoo already has a show in a somewhat similar spirit: Other Space

Yeah, Galaxy Quest, the movie, was one of those surprisingly great movies. That they were able to poke fun at the Star Trek series AND laud them at the same time is quite an accomplishment. Jonathan Frakes saw the movie and called Patrick Stewart to tell him he had to see it. Stewart was afraid they'd ridicule the Star Trek world but went to see it anyway. He loved the movie.
