I was reading product reviews and noticed that there were several products that had mostly positive reviews. 15 five out of five, 4 four out of five, then perhaps a single one out of five review. In a lot of these cases, whether it be books, video games, et cetera, it seems that the bad reviews start out with, "I didn't understand the book, how the leveling on the game worked, et cetera," then they proceed to go on about how much it sucks.

Do these people even realize what they're doing? In some of the reviews I read, it was pretty much the equivalent of them saying, "I couldn't figure out how the car started because I'm a moron and don't know where the key goes, but the handling and everything sucks too!"
 
I hate people that bring the rating down of a quality product because they are too stupid to use it. Anyway that's why you have to read the negative reviews before you pass judgment.
 
Whenever someone mentions Amazon.com user reviews, I can't help but think of this, which goes to prove exactly how useful these reviews can be.

There was another one that comes to mind, I looked up the User Reviews of the Johnny Cash box set, Cash Unearthed. There was a one star rating review, and the user gave it because the logo of the record company that the box set was published under was the American flag in an upside-down position. :roll:

This is what I am talking about.
 
haha I love the people that give a product a shining review but rate it like 2 stars because Amazon took forever to ship it. I also like how they allow mock reviews, like that weird personal tank thingy. Dunno if it's even really something you can buy. But the reviews were hilarious. Anyone have a link? It was a Mad Max looking vehicle that cost like $25,000 and had a bunch of reviews that were obviously made up.
 
Amazon reviews are an awesome resource and I check them all the time, particularly for non-tech/geeky products. A little bit of sense goes a long ways in getting the most miles out of them.
 
the newegg user reviews are better but one thing that amazon has that is very useful is the 'similar product' search

I agree though with the OP, many bad reviews are more of a review of the reviewer's stupidity.

I don't know if it was Amazon, but when the XBOX HD-DVD's were selling for $100, some people claimed they were ripped off because the XBOX didn't come with it.

YES! I can't believe I didn't remember the name lol, some of the reviews are so funny. I serious question if that's a real product even, I can spot fake reviews but the product? hummm. I wish I had enough to actually attempt to order it, I'd love to have my own Badonkadonk 🙂

Reading the reviews of bizarre products sold on Amazon makes life worth living again. Some I've stumbled across in the past couple minutes:

Relaxman Relaxation Capsule

One drawback, when it was delivered the capsule had no bolt on the outside. But I'm handy, so I installed one. I have been locking the wife and kids into the chamber from 7pm to 7am every evening, and boy am I relaxed. This really works.

Sprinkler Nipple Extractor

I grew up without nipples. I knew that one day, they would descend, and that would be the day when I could proudly call myself a woman. But I was growing worried. Just clicking random links can eat up a whole afternoon. All I need is a fresh whole rabbit and some instant urine and I'm set for the day!
 
Many people will rate an item 1-star if it takes too long to get to them or other shipping/packaging mistakes, completely independent of product quality. Others will give a 5-star review for an item they have owned for a day or have a large investment in (more expensive items have higher rating averages, for example, regardless of actual merit).

Generally, I take the reviews with a grain of salt. If you view the review page, Amazon does a good job at showing the "most useful" positive and negative reviews - I've found the "most useful" negative review to be the best in most cases.
