I just went to rate a book I read from the library to get up to date recommendations and found out you can only rate items bought from amazon or are already in your recommended items now. WTF?

"How do I rate an item that I haven't purchased, that I purchased elsewhere, or that isn't recommended to me?

You cannot rate an item that you haven't purchased on Amazon. However, you are welcome to like any item in our store by using our "Like" button on the product detail pages."

I assume that came with the new update too. It has only been a month or so since I last rated something I didn't buy from amazon.com. This is just lame.

Its probably for the best. They're gonna lose some legit reviews like yours, but they're also blocking tons of fake/joke reviews.

Lots of haters who dont own products love to rate them low. Plenty of fan boys do the same, but rate high.

I write joke reviews of everything I buy on Amazon (and I buy a lot of crap.) I love the responses.

I'm not talking about reviews. I can still review anything I want. I just can't rate them unless I've bought the item from amazon.com. Two different things. Now if they had changed it so you couldn't review an item without buying it from amazon.com I would agree with you. That would make a lot of sense.

I just hope they stop recommending me stuff and displaying every item i've ever looked at on the front page. I know you can turn off recommendations but they always have a way of turning back on after a while.
