I login and get the D-40 camera on 2nd offer, but stupid out-of-stock notification.

..then, click on 3rd and get the Garmin TALKING Streetpilot III GPS for $390. NICE!!! :D

..I already have the previous Color Streetpilot GPS, and to think that I was just going to buy the Metroguide CD maps + a 32MB card for $200

Now I get a TALKING GPS with a FREE City Navigator CDROM + 32MB card for $390. Just bought a new SUV and this will be a great new toy.

Time to upgrade. Anyone want to buy a used Color Streetpilot GPS? ;)

If a friend of mine happens to get the Olympus D-40 Camera in his Gold-Box, how do I go about purchasing it myself, and not him. ?

Put it in his shopping cart and pay for it with your credit card and have it shipped to your address.

I tried clearing my cache and everything and then restarted my computer. Logged onto Amazon.com, saw the GOLD BOX, clicked on it and this is what it says :

Your Gold Box? offers are currently unavailable.
You can access your Gold Box once every 24 hours. If you've already viewed your daily offers or made a Gold Box purchase, you'll have to wait for your timer to reset before seeing a new set of offers.

It'll be worth the wait, though, so come back soon!

I Really, Really, Really want this digital camera so im going to call CSR in a few minutes and say that the Digital Cam was in my gold box, but was saying out of stock and I will try to get a raincheck for the $250 price. Wish me luck.

Anyone know specifically which cookie it is? I don't want to clear all cookies (obviously, I'd hate to relog into a ton of sites), and only found two amazon.com cookies (one amazon.com, the other www.amazon.com).

I had a goldbox from the beginning. But yesterday when I saw the post, went to amazon, no gold box. exited and tried again, still none. Exited again, deleted cookies & cleared cache, relogged into amazon, no gold box. Tried again today...still nothing. Damn.

Suggestions?

Try and Try again. It is still random even after all that. Try logging out of ISP/Relogging in (if you are DHCP) so you have a new IP address.

It seems to me that Amazon has a few set goldbox offers. seems from other people's post there are no more than 6 of these.
My goldbox is always electronics...just got offered the RIO mp3 player, 256 CF card, Canon EOS 35mm, 6 piece speakers 5.1.
The funny thing is that I never buy electronics at amazon...I only buy books and last week I bought a brita water purifier. I browse electronics from time to time though. There has to be a pattern for us to be able to get the goldbox we want (for future deals).

I tried opening all the 5 offers on 5 different windows to see If I could get to see all the items and then order something from offer pervious to number 5. I tried this this twice... last nite and this morning... IT DOES NOT WORK... What does happen is that you get a RANDOM discount amount... lower than the price on Amazon site but still way above the GoldBox price....

anyone else got this to work???

Well I found that the Random GB discount after you pass the offer is based on the actual price...
For eg. The original price of Item I was testing with yesterday was $449 and I was given a price of $404 Difference of $45 (Original GB price $238)

Today the original price was $349 and AFTER I passed the offer I was quoted a price of $314 a Difference of $35... ((Original GB price $279)

I would assume if the price of an item was say $549 then the discounted price AFTER you passed the GB offer would be $549 - $55 = $494...

I am just assuming the logic... it does NOT have to be that way....

Anyone else gets any logic working???

Darn, just got the Olympus Camera Deal as well and of course its out of stock. Was hoping yo get two of these ;) Oh well got one yesterday under my wife's account...I guess I should be thankful, which I am. I would like to see that Xbox deal tho pop up for $100, oh and now my daughter opened an account and I opened another at work, and we each bought a DVD, so hopefully this will give me 4 chances per day for a totol of 20 items...improving the odds :p

I bet Jeff Bezos and his marketing dept are thrilled to find out people buying stuff simply for the chance of something good in Gold Box. Mission accomplished. :D

Actually, if I had gotten the D40 I just might do the same too.

I have been lurking here for years now and this D-40 "deal" has brought me out. Personally, I and about 5 co-workers checked our gold boxes yesterday and never saw this fabled D-40 deal. The camera showed out of stock since noon yesterday, but yet people are still buying it today?

It would be reassuring to see screen captures of theses orders. I think I will stay away from this 'gold box' type of transaction where some can claim unverifiable deals.

if this was a plant from someone at Amazon, it worked well, i have half my office opening accounts and buying crap now just to get the box open, I feel responsible.

argh, back to lurking...

Another experimental run ---

Open your GB offers in 5 separate windows..... If you want an offer that you like.... wait till your NEXT GB is unlocked and you reach that Offer number and try ordering??? It might work....

Will probably try it when my NEXT GB is unlocked

Look back a couple of pages. There is a screen capture of the item at that price.

Man! I just don't understand. I'm logged in, I see my name. No gold box. I looked in my purchase history, I've bought software, electronics, books, kids tools and outdoor items, yet no gold box. I've tried IE, Netscape and Konquerer (in linux).

I deleted amamzon cookies. I'm lost here. Is the gold box titled, "gold box" on the page. I've been cliking a bunch of objects in the top right, but have seen nothing?

EDIT: I deleted some cookies that were updated when the amazon.com ones were, they had file names of just numbers. After that, I launched IE and got the gold box, then logged in, got nothing special. Junk!
