So I was checking my Visa statement and they charged me with $79! I never gave them permission to do that. I called their customer service and some indian dude named "john" that couldn't get my account information right told me the charge would be cancelled and it would be on my next billing statement. So, my question is why does it take that long to process? I think Amazon's accounting practices are questionable at this point. I am EXTREMELY careful and never gave them permission to do this.

Amazon prime gave out free samples of the service last spring. I tried it out, but "auto-cancelled" the day I signed up. Watch your accounts...if you see anything like: "1109AMZ*PRIME SHIP .COM/BILL NV" that on your statement, it's Amazon trying to steal your money. Beware!!! :Q

If you don't specify that you don't wanna automatically renew, you get billed. You're the idiot here, not Amazon. And even though they say "next billing statement", it usually shows up as a credit in a few days.

edit: When you say "auto-cancelled", what do you mean?

I mean, I set my account "not to automatically renew"....pretty much, when the trial period was over, so was my connection with AP. I'm just making the point that they made me jump through hoops. Trust me, I haven't done anything with Amazon Prime since March. If they were going to bill me, it should have been in May or June. I feel violated. :(

What do you mean "why does it take so long to process?" They said it'd show up on your next statement. Apparantly you've received the statement with the charge on it (based on the OP), so it's too late to credit it on that statement...

I'm leaning toward possible user error on this one.

In that case, Amazon's the idiot here :)

Don't worry, their customer service is pretty good in refunding money.

A few months a ago I bought a camera for $450 or so. Two weeks later the price dropped $65. I wrote to them asking if they would pricematch, and I got the $65 difference back in less than a week.

By user error, I hope you mean some user(employee) at Amazon... I haven't ordered anything from Amazon in months. I'm only making a big deal about this because when I called Visa to ask what the charge was, the guy told me that there was no verification data on the order. He said these kinds of charges are the easiest to refute. Go figure.... My point of posting this was to bring to everyone's attention that things can sometimes be charged on your account without your knowledge or doing. You can assume that I made some mistake and ordered it, but I assure you, if it was something that I signed up for, I did it in the last 5 months without ordering anything else or logging in. Not only that, I got no confirmation email notifying me of a transaction. So...watch your accounts...
