Amazon charges me a BS restocking fee

i had to return a defective tv because i already tried following amazons instructions and going through the manufacturer, and they told me i could return it. well, i return it and now theyre trying to charge me a restocking fee...except they never ever mentioned a fee...what the hell?

i sent them an email, but im pretty pissed. anyone had this problem before? i realize if i was just trying to be an ass and returning a good product for nothing, but it was defective!

You might want to look around here, but I believe someone had a similar thread a couple days ago. Seems that the policy is to charge a restocking fee if you're looking for a refund, but no restocking fee if you're just exchanging it.

its just odd that they didnt tell me at all, thats why im pissed. i will get it cleared up for sure because its a freaking defective item, and i had no idea of this charge. lame.
 
Odd, I'd expect there to be no restocking fee on defective merchandise; not like they can really "restock" something that doesn't work.

If instead of complaining on a public forum you spent that time calling Amazon you probably would've already known the reason.

yep, but it was because they extended my period because they wanted me to wait for samsung to come out instead.

Somewhat of a side topic, but how is their packaging with their TVs? I am thinking about buying one from Amazon soon, but I am afraid because I don't know how secure their packaging is.

Don't worry, they'll charge you a nice restocking fee if the packaging is insufficient.
 
I bought a Samsung 46" LCD from Amazon. The delivery men (Eagle, is it?) arrived with the Samsung box wrapped in some moving cloth. The brought the TV into my living room, helped unpack it and waited for me to turn on the TV to make sure everything worked (they have a checklist) before they left.

The TV worked fine after the delivery guy left... for about 10 minutes. The video then went wacky and then completely black. I called Amazon and they asked that I contact Samsung support. I started going this route until I realized how troublesome it would be to stay home as a Samsung rep investigates my TV. I called and emailed Amazon again, asking for the TV to be replaced (same model). They OK'd it, sent out a new TV and I was up and running. Except the Eagle shipper didn't get a notice to take back the old TV. I contacted Amazon again and had a third visit from Eagle to pick up the old TV.

I was not charged any additional fees. But as others stated, this was an exchange, not money back.
