It looks like the guy that got cut up was a robot, but it was cool nonetheless.

Too much cutting in and out between the magic act and hassle the hoff, i think that played a big part in this trick.

The guy had his legs curled up in a ball in the upper half of the body as the beginning. The leg that moved up was robotic. At the end, he unfolds his legs down into the lower half. He jumps awkwardly at the end because of the two piece suit.
