I'd be all over this except I want to listen to satellite radio and there's no satellite tuner that i know of that has coaxial digital out (anyone know any different?). Plugging a satellite tuner into this unit via the RCA inputs just doesn't seem right.

Finding a comparable satellite-ready head unit in this price range is near impossible.

The car audio forums across the internet are going nuts over this unit. If you want the purest in sound quality at a rock bottom price, then this is what to get. Supplies of this unit are limited, and once they are gone thats it. This is absolutely deal of the year for anything car audio related. Retail price on this unit used to be $1900.00, dealer cost was $1300.00. At $350.00, it is an absolute steal...

How much would it cost to build a decent system around this unit? Amps, comps, sub. How about equalizer? If my budget is about $1500 for everything, could i pull it off?

(this is in a toyota tacoma extra cab)

I have the 9813 & 4 Polk 6 1/2" that I got from Crutchfield. They were running a deal with the purchase of speakers w/headunit. Practically got the speakers for free, not to mention the free install kits for the speakers & headunit. Teamed this up w/Rockford amp & Mac Daddy sub & I got all the tunes I need in my little Sentra. I don't have any trunk space left, tho...hehehe.

Woodpost, PM me with what kind of music you listen to, and what you want out of your system (loud & booming, subtle and clear, a bit of both, ect) and I'll build you up with a good system.

How much better, sound quality wise, is this compared to something like an Eclipse CD5433. I'm using the CD5433 right now with an old Rockford Fosgate 600A amp, a pair of Infinity REF6000CS, and a JL Audio 12W0 in my truck...nothing fancy. I'm not too sure it would be worth upgrading with the equipment I have right now.

The next sound system I want is a different matter though 😀 I've been looking at the Alpine F#1 Status CDA-7990 HU but I'm having a hard time justifying $3000 for just a HU. How does this unit compare? Of course most of the other equipment I'm looking at isn't exactly cheap either (Zapco amplifiers, Focal component speakers, and a pair of JL Audio 13W7 subs).

Wow. That's a lot of money to put in a vehicle. I don't think I can do that. I'm never sure I'm going to have my car more than a few months into the future with all the noises it makes! 🙂

Skip the F#1, not worth it. If I was you, I'd snatch this one up and use it later on to compete. Won't be much difference compared to the Eclipse right now, but when every point counts......

The eclipse works very well for that system, I wouldn't swap it out. As for the 7990 - it's virtually worthless with out the H900 - there's no point to buy one without the other. The combo comes up used for around $4500 - I almost pulled the trigger there, but instead am going with the PXA-H700 mated with either a DVA-7996 or CDA-7969.

Then again, why buy the H900 when you get 90% of it's performance or better in the H700. the only reason I can find to buy the H900 is if you have a ton of money burning a hole in your pocket, or you need a three way active front stage + rear speakers for 5.1 applications...I'm running a three way active front stage with my H700 and NO rear speakers....

If you had planned to go Zapco, the RF head has balanced outputs on it that will work (IIRC) with the Symblink system...then you would be fully balanced with the signal chain straight to the amps...therefore...NO NOISE at all.

Hope that helps....

rcurley55 and Entropism,

Thanks for the replies. Well I ordered this head unit. This was too good of a deal to pass up! I had alloted about $10,000 - $12,000 for a new sound system. Getting this HU for this price will give me a little bit more money for the other components now 😀 Thank you Anandtech Hot Deals!

What can I say...I love my sound. If you think that's bad, I was looking at a Pontiac Firebird a few weeks ago with a CRAZY sound system. The stereo equipment in his car added up to a little over $100,000! Not only was it loud but had better sound quality than any stereo system (home or car) that I've ever heard. I like my sound but not quite enough to spend $100,000 on it!

Glad to hear you jumped on it.....this really is a great head unit for those who want all analog signal and who want to run all outboard analog processing!

10k...sheesh, I could spend that in just wires....for what it's worth, here's what I'm installing currently

Alpine DVA-7996
Alpine PXA-H700
PPI A100.2 to Image Dynamics CD1pro mini horns
PPI A200.2 to Image Dynamics CX52 mids in kicks
PPI A300.2 to either Image Dynamics IDQ62 mids or IDQ8DVC mids in the doors
PPI A600.2 to either on IDMAX12 or a pair of IDQ12's (still have not decided)

If I wasn't running the H700, I would have been all over this deal, but it's the last DAC in the system that counts, and that's in the H700....I really love the old PPI Art Series amps...they are still some of the best around 8-9 years later!!

Ahh crap I was looking for something like this... just wish I saw it a couple weeks prior. Makes me almost want to cry...

I want to compete in car shows with my stereo system, but now that I know theres a better sound quality one than mine, I dunno how I can win. :-/ Oh well hopefully I won't run into someone having that one on. 😀

Hmm maybe I can sell mine... anyone interested in a top of the line Eclipse deck? How does $500 shipped sound? 🙂 I really just need top quality sound, nothing else...

PS: just checked it's the 8053 model

would I really tell the sound difference between this and the 2000Ti? Running MB Quart 8" speakers

The 8053 is probably one of the best heads currently available on the market, and anyone using it would be capable of winning at pretty high levels....unless you have a ton of outboard processing, stick with the 8053 - I was very close to buying it, but I needed more crossover channels then it would allow me....

10k+ for a system? i could understand above 2k for competetion...
I hope you spent a nice amount on an alarm system

Out of curiosuty anyone buy this headunit? How's the quality of sound? Also, is there a good place to get an Eclipse headunit you other's mentioned at a cheap price?

Thanks

Any other info out there on this? I'm a pretty good googler, and can find almost nothing but MSN shoppping sites pointing to it, plus a few pictures from cars in Japan, and that's about it.

anyone know where to get an Alpine CDA-7995 cheapest? They should be on clearance now... I'm wanting to replace my old amp-less 7930
