she was found guilty. then on re-trail found not-guilty and was allowed to leave the country. Then they retried her and found her guilty yet again. she gets to appeal that yet again.

I don't see that at all but the big questions is why? what was the motive?

I believe she was found not guilty, then after the fact, the Italian Supreme Court ruled it a mistrial. They then held a new trial (without her present to defend herself) and she was found guilty. I believe the US will not extradite her, however, I am not sure if the Double Jeopardy clause would cover her, as there was only one example I could find and it involved a trial being declared "illegal", as it was held a town in Dakota Indian territory when it was illegal for non native Americans to settle there. I'm not entirely sure, as I am not a lawyer.

No, it's what happened the second time. She was convicted, then aquitted, then convicted again. Wrap your head around that.

I have no idea whether she likely did it or not. A lot of people seem convinced that she didn't, but I've never seen any kind of dispassionate examination of all the evidence, so I refuse to hold an opinion either way.
