Fry's electronics (in stores only) has the am3 710 phenom II cpu for $49.99 in today's ad. That's less than half what newegg charges. They also have the e7500 with msi p43 board for $99.99. In this deal, the motherboard is free. This week may be the best time of the year to upgrade.

While you're there, you might as well pick up a 1TB WD green drive for $60 too. Wish Fry's wasn't so damn far.

Can you still unlock the 4th core on this? This deal is damn tempting to use this CPU to slowly start rebuilding my home PC.

Yes. You can try it, but it may be more stable with 3 cores, especially if you're overclocking. 3 cores for $50 is a great deal. I would buy it, but it's overkill for surfing the net.

I am trying to balance whether or not this is an adequate tradeoff for those on the left coast.....Riots, mudslides, and earthquakes vs. half price computer hardware. $50 AM3 710? Thats ridiculous.

Great price, between this deal and the 965 with a ud4P ddr2 board for 199 the deals are hawt at frys this weekend. Last week the 805x4 for 79 was awesome too. I had been disappointed in the deals at B&M frys for a year or so but the last 2 weeks the deals have been crazy!

Hope frys survives the down economy.....

This is the best sales week at Fry's. After next Wed, you won't see specials like this until their anniversary sale, which is in May in my area.

just plopped in a 710 and it unlocked and is running prime to see where its at...

Renton, WA didn't have the 710 in stock, but I picked up a 720 black edition for $69.99 (in the local ad) dropped it in and it is zipping right along at 3400 (17x) at stock voltage.

Nope, its totally not worth it. The perfect weather would probably be too much for your system, and the threat of riots every 20-30 years in a small part of LA to which I have never been and will never go is enough to keep any east coaster away. I probably shouldn't tell you this, but since it is just between you and me, they know where the big earthquake faults are and you don't have to live on them. Only very minor faults in San Diego, no hurricanes, and 2 Frys.

Its all bad here. Please stay away. We prefer to "suffer" by ourselves.

Bull!

In addition to the after Thanksgiving/Black Friday sales, which are huge, Fry's always has a similar type of sale on New Year's Day every year, at least at the two in Atlanta I shop. Then there's the Super Bowl extravaganza that's done annually.

And I really doubt Fry's is going to stop doing their weekly specials anytime soon, either, which this is one of. Naturally, the weekly specials won't compare to the BF or New Year's Day sales, but the never do.

Fry's weekly specials have pretty much sucked all year until now. After that whole VP scandal, it seemed Fry's decided to tone down the sales. Hopefully, this is an indication that Fry's is turning back to its old self.

Down here in FL we have hurricanes and unemployment vs. tiger direct. Its a lose - lose scenario.
