I decided to get a nice 4GB Samsung that we have at my work so i can get a discount on it too lol. So it looks like this paycheck isnt going to happen

man, that sucks...

You'll just have to wait on the next paycheck. oh well, by then maybe they'll have the ASUS out!

EDIT: I just completed my temporary college build (a crappy nForce mobo until the ASUS deluxe or R.O.G. motherboard comes out!). It kicks arse even with the RAM running at DDR2-400 with lousy timings, only one of my hard drives running rather than in a RAID 0, one of my X1900s missing, and the CPU not overclocked at all. I'd like to send out a big thanks to whoever designed this P.O.S. chipset for an $85 motherboard... ASUS help me!

lol. Shouldnt be long. But since my aniversery is coming up i cant afford the PC right away. I think im going to have to put her off until christmas and build a complete new system. Probably something like

AMD 64 5000 (or 5200 if its out. i dont remember the release date)
2 GB DDR2 ram
Dual 160GB HDs in Raid 0
X1950XTs in Crossfire

Should hold me off for a while. Or if im waiting for december might aswell wait a month longer and pickup AM3 right?

I thought AM3 was a late 2007/early 2008 deal.

And I wouldn't get main storage in RAID. One drive goes and you're toast. If I ever did RAID, I'd use two Raptors and have a 3rd drive for main storage.

i would be using an 80GB SATA for my OS. And as far as AM3 goes. its Scheduled for Q1 of 2007 which puts it in the January-march range

Why spend the money on the 5000 if you can easily OC an X2 3800+ (or even the new X2 3600+) past that level?

Anyway, OBCT is right about the AM3 release schedule. There is no way AMD will release AM3 until K8L has hit mainstream. Opteron Quad-Core (a.k.a. K8L, suppossedly?) is suppossed to arrive in full availability in Q1 2007, but mainstream/enthusiast segment isn't suppossed to arrive until much later.

^note I'm just writing this from memory, so if you know something I don't, please prove me wrong! That'd be awesome!

+1 to the people waiting for AM2 Xfire boards 😉

Hoping to get a high end ASUS or DFI board when they finally come out, I was considering this build:

ASUS M2R32-MVP (R.O.G. edition?) / DFI Lanparty UT CFX3200 - M2
AMD 64 X2 4200+
X1900XT (single card for now, possible crossfire in couple months)
2GB DDR2 ram
Tagan TG580 watt / Enermax Liberty 620W / other modular PSU of good quality

For now, I'll planning to grab the MSI board next week ASAP and overnight it.

If the reviews of the Asus/DFI are really good, or if I don't like the MSI, I'll RMA it and get a different one within 30 days. 😛

Edit: And about AM3, with the problems we've had getting Xfire boards for AM2, I wouldn't surprised if they didn't pop up until Q4 2007. Not really worried about AM3 though, gonna stick with this AM2 system for a few years. 🙂

Good plan... especially since AM3 is based on DDR3, and DDR3 modules haven't even started mass production. I'm guessing AM3 won't even show up in significant amounts until Q1 or Q2 2008.

bumping to make sure this thread stays active and on-track for announcing the soonest availability of the new ASUS CF board soon to hit market... not that anyone would have forgotten 😉

Boo, the MSI AM2 motherboard is now $200 at Zipzoomfly. Many European sites show it being available starting tomorrow, so maybe that's why Zipzoomfly upped the price? Is tomorrow wishful thinking?

Yeah, I noticed that earlier. I think it was a typo on ZZF's part. I'd still buy it though.

Link to those European sites, please.

I dont Overclock.. thats why.. and when you get a higher CPU you have more potential to OC even higher. But as i said i dont overclock, i dont like to and i refuse to.

but couldnt you OC the 5000+ even futher beyond all of that??

Not much because they use the same Core architecture
I've been waiting for the Asus board since June 22 (my B-Day) I think I can hold out a week or two though

You no what i hope?...i hope that board better come out by the end of this month cause i got a huge fat paycheck and i m not afraid to use it!

bumpity...

This thread has kept me sane for the last two weeks. Almost.

I think this is the first time I've ever built a computer completely backwards, buying the motherboard last.
