AM2 CPU Prices.. Being Halved within .. a week after launch?

For reference, AMD's site quotes its price @$290 for 1,000 unit purchase.

I dont think even that would help move 'em. If youre gonna buy everything that would otherwise run on a superior platform that doesnt make sense.

The only ones who will buy are brand loyalists.

So suddenly everyone will buy only conroe, that did not happen during when X2 reigned suppreme and will not happen now, people still buyed pentiums D. Even when northwood was the best a lot had Athlon Xps.

Hard core enthusiast will prolly go for conroe, but thats like 1% of the market.

I want cheap dual cores for socket 939 so i can just buy one and chuck it in my second comp.

Darn when the hell will amd drop their prices, prolly day before conroe arrives.
Cause with current prices of duallies, it crazy who the hell building a new system would choose a 3800+ x2 over a E6600.

AMD will look very bad when the reduce prices massively after conroe launches. They should cut prices a bit now so that they don't look so bad at conroe launch.

Wow- if true that's a monster price cut. Hopefully they keep hammering prices (X2 also) down. I'm not big on dual core yet as I don't multitask or use the very few apps that take advantage of dual cores, but if the price on those fell enough I may pick one up.

Well, previous to the price cuts, the 64 3800+ was priced very closely compared to the X2 3800+. Does this mean we can soon pick up an X2 3800+ for around $150? We'll soon find out!

I've just seen some weird price cuts on single core A64's in the Uk as well... shame they aren't on X2's here yet :/

AMD will cut prices for CPU's in response to actual or expected demand. Last I heard AMD was selling them as fast as they made them so no need to cut price. The above mentioned price cut was for single core processors only. This is certainly in response to Intels price cuts on it's older P4 CPU's, plus the increasing popularity (ie, purchases) of dual core CPU's. Dont expect a real price cut until Conroe actually ships.

I am looking forward to that day. My 3000+ winchester is getting a little long in the tooth and a dual core CPU would definitly keeping me going until nect year when I can decide between Conroe and K8L.

There have been very few (If any) price cuts on Intel single-core CPUs (At least 800FSB ones), the price cuts are because people are buying Dual core Intels (8xx, and then 9xx) instead of the more expensive Single core A64's (3800+).

Ummm, a 7900GT sells for like $260. That's about 50% of the cost of the uber high end cards, for somewhere around 90% of the performance. Seems like a no-brainer.

At least INTC pays a dividend. You can collect that till the dust settles.
