Well...not exactly AM, but an AM station I can now hear on the iheartradio App. I used to listen to 600 KCOL on my small AM/FM portable radio. In fact the batteries that are in there ave been there since 2008 and still power the radio! I would listen to Coast To Coast with George Noory, Hannity and sometimes El Rushbo. LOL! But I'm liking a program in the morning (of which I can't remember his name). He was like the only one to talk about the EPA bull shit here in CO and that hit job on Trump with Megyan Kelly the other night. I thought that was indeed a hit job when I watched it that night. One thing is for sure, there is bad blood between Trump and Kelly. LOL!

The best part about the App is that I can hear the station without all the static! And I can hear other radio stations across the U.S.

I never would have thought I would be able to sit out back on the patio with a Bluetooth ear piece listening to Coast To Coast. Fantastic! This phone transmits Bluetooth quit a ways. I can have the phone laying on the table upstairs and I can hear it in my ear piece all around the house, in the garage and outside in the backyard.

No way!

Did you even read anything I said????

But to correct your assumption...It's not the clouds, it's the ionosphere.

It wasn't an assumption, it was a misconception.

Also you left out that it depends on the frequency and not the type of modulation whether the signals bounce off of the ionosphere or not.

So you say you want to convert your back patio into an AM radio station? Kudos to you man great project! Keep us posted.

Don't broadcast any talk radio unless it is hosted by a local native american or the voice of yahweh.

There are few life forms on the planet lower than those who regularly listen to POLITICAL talk radio.

Edited for the truth. OP if you want the real flakes listen to short wave radio political talk shows.

AM radio was great in the mid-sixties when Motown was king but the world has changed a lot since then. One of the most popular AM radio shows in central CT these days is basically a call-in rummage sale.

I love listening to Coast to Coast

... When I'm driving overnight. It keeps my mind racing (and alert) as it attempts to connect what I'm hearing to logic. At least it's better than feeling sleepy.

I think you're confusing fresh air with a fart locked in a hot car.

You're talking to someone who has at least $3000 in radio equipment.

AM radio is basically end-of-the-world apocalyptic fanatics or ultra-right paranoid conspiracy loons engaging in stream-of-conscious diatribes with themselves in their grandmother's garage, nestled next to her 1956 mercury montclair and her defunct fat shaker belt.

so, yeah...I can see the appeal.

So to sum things up, you get quality sound and coast to coast broadcast......but what you are actually listening to is still complete shit.

Got it

The weird thing about the "breath of fresh air" bit is that I always assumed the OP fed his thoughts directly from AM radio sources...and now it is "fresh air."

This puzzles me. I am wondering if he draws from some other, far more terrifying source of mad ranting; or if his previous posting reflect the pure, unfiltered thoughts that result from a lifetime of isolation from human interaction and intellectual pursuit.

:hmm:

am radio waves bounce off the clouds and can travel a long ways .

Yeah it's fun turning on an AM radio at night especially. We have no AM stations here but you can pick up all sorts of stuff. I typically get stuff from Toronto area and the states.

On similar subject it just ocured to me I don't even own a 12v AM/FM radio. Kinda a good idea to have one in case of some kind of very extended power outage or other crazy situation where you might want to listen on to see what's happening.

Years ago I had a work truck with a digital(!) am radio. Such an awesome melding of high and low tech :^S After scouring the dial, I found a great station that played big band music all day. Of course it went off the air literally a week later... Nothing left to listen to...

Exactly. Cell phones won't save you. Unless you have one that has built in FM, or you could use RadioComm. ;)

Not sure about Canada, but in the states most of if not all towns have their own low powered AM station that broadcasts town info. including emergency information. To those that don't know about this. Pay attention the the road signs on main highways.

Actually I kinda want to look into a propane generator at some point, but it's hard to justify the cost, we don't get quite enough power outages. Rather save up and maybe get a solar setup at some point. :D Solar panels are actually getting cheaper and cheaper. Seems to be about $2/watt now. Not that solar would work very well here though but it would still provide some power.
