So a few years ago, my wife and I got out of our first cars and bought new ones.....(yippee).....and one we sold to my step brother (who later totaled it...@##@) and my wife's car we gave to her folks.....(it was an '89 Geo spectrum which is worth about $5 on the stree today, methinks....LOL)......but it ran & had 4 doors & air, etc. so I figured WTH, right?

Well, a year later they gave the car back.......(actually I sold it to a guy at work for $500).

Here we are a few years later & I've been *given* (yes, given) a '94 Toy P/U. Not too shabby, eh?? Ya, it's high mileage (172K) and has some bumps & bruises, but everything works and my buddy was the original owner, so why not. I've taken it over the last few days and put some TLC into it & a few hundred bucks worth of maint.

I offer it up to the in-laws (they only have one car & watch my little ones so kinda' pisses me off when the one's at work & my kids have no way to get to a hospital if necessary)...........and what have they done??

Dilly dallied for almost a week now & want me to bring it up for them to look at thoroughly tomorrow & then they'll talk about it & decide..........WTF??????????????

I'm startin' to like this little truck now & may just tell 'em to go pound sand. (keep in mind version 1.0 of this whole ordeal).

Am I being an a-hole or would y'all feel the same about this??

OK, so in a nutshell my peeeev is that the in-laws are actually dickin' around with taking a vehicle I'm willing to give them for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!! (as it was given to me).

There are quite a few more things I'd like to do to the vehicle assuming they don't take it, but if they suddenly decide they want this thing, then I ain't dumpin' another penny in. They've pissed me off already.

Note that when the guy from work "offered" it to me, I just had some basic questions & I said, "Hey, no sweat"..............and I already HAVE 2 cars. These in-laws of mine should be jumpin' up & down at this opportunity since they only have one car........what have they got to lose......it's FRIGGIN' FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :|

The part where you are wrong is the part when you get mad for waiting a week. Heck you could wait a year without it harming you. Why again are you mad?

If it were me I certainly wouldn't make a habit of this type of thing if this is the way you're treated in return. It may soon come to be expected.

You can't offer a free vehicle and then when they ask about it you take back your offer. On the other hand, if they are offered a free vehicle they can't expect it to be an open invitation for the remaining lifetime of the vehicle.

Judge TheNinja rules in favor a 10-day time frame in which the in-laws are required to pick up the vehicle themselves unless redgtxdi is willing to deliver the vehicle at his expense. After this 10 day time frame redgtxdi is free to do with it what he pleases without any guilt on his part and is under no obligation to give it to the in laws.

And the truck is not really free. There is the little thing such as T&T and insurance. What happen if it broke down and they have to pay money to get it tows. Anyway, just relax.

HOLY CRAP!

I like the last quote. ?There?s a 5-year-old child here,? Mirabelli said. ?Imagine how a child feels when your father says he feels emotionally damaged by your birth."

That child is gonna be damaged no matter what, his/her mother is a freak.

Ya.....it's hard to win in this situation. I recommend you move about 1,000 miles away.

they get it for free. they can rid themselves of it for free or sell it for a low fee, which will just be money in their pockets.

i agree that the OP's in-laws are stupid. that's all.

So how do you explain to little Johnny that he was born not because mommy and daddy loved each other and wanted to start a family? I imagine it would go something like this: "After daddy blew a load into mommy's mouth, mommy didn't swallow like a good girl, but instead spit into a turkey baster.."

Thanks for the support & criticism!! (I do need both 'cuz as everyone can tell I'm a little pissed here).

I thought about why I'm pissed and I think it's for 2 reasons........

#1.) Now that I've put some hours, elbow grease and $$$ into this thing......I'd just as soon keep it if somebody's gonna look this gift horse in the mouth. (i.e. getting "attached")
rose.gif

#2.) Kinda' the 2nd half of part 1.......I just can't imagine if I'd have done this same thing to the guy who *gave* it to me. I wasn't raised like that. It's definitely the whole "gift horse in the mouth" scenario.

I've dropped my kids off in it 3 times now so they know it runs. Sure, they might have concerns, but they could just ask. And if they weren't sure, just let it go.

I'll probably finish what I was doing with it (new belts, tinted windows, tranny oil, rear-end oil, bleed entire brake system) then just tell 'em that if they want it they need to reimburse me about $500 bucks 'cuz that's what I've now got into it. The if they don't take it, I've got the kind of truck I'd want anyway!!!

BTW, when they took free vehicle #1 & just left it in their garage for a year and I sold it to another guy at work, I got to hear about how he had to have the entire fuel system gone through 'cuz the bad gas had gummed & ruined the whole system. Greeeeaaat!!! (It was the gift that kept on giving back then..........& some of you are right.....I SHOULD have learned the first time!!)

(I'm gonna go kick my own ass now.........a la "Liar Liar") :D

Dude, I'll take it. We've got 1 semi-working car (transmission is close to going on it but it works okayish) and we've been renting for the past two months (read: $$$). That'd be sweet to land a free car. :D

Right there is your problem. It seems they have no need for extra car and have a hard time turning you down. That's why they hesitance...

Sometimes family are the best...sometimes they are the worst.;)

Bring the truck to 'em, if they like and want it...great, if they dont....you win and get to keep it:) Either way, I dont think its worth getting into a tizzy over:p

I can hear Mommy Dearest now...
"Yes dear, your mommy caught a load in her face and used it to impregnate herself in order to screw some poor bastard out of 800 bucks a month."
I still can't believe the courts let that fly.
If I drop a load in some chick's face, it's obvious that the intent is to avoid childbirth.
The gift was a mouthful of semen, not a moneyshot in the backside.

This begs a ruling from Judge TehNinja.

Ya, well that's free to the in-laws........(again my assanine decision)........but not quite free if I decided to get rid of it.

However, I've also got an F150 Scab I'd just as soon park for a while to curb gas prices. The F150 gets about 14/18mpg and this Toy gets like 22/28 so you can imagine my interest in keeping this little sucker too. ;)

Plus there's just something kinda' fun about no power ANYTHING!! Definitely takes me back to a simpler time! (Echoes in my head in the background......"We are mighty, we are great, we're the class of '88"With a little 'Welcome to the jungle' playin' in the background!).....Oops, just royally dated myself there.......LmAO!!!! :D
