I don't think you're weird for wanting the mx3100, mainly because I want it too. I have the mx duo, and have been waiting for logitech to combo the mx1000 with a keyboard. However, I was actually hoping they'd design a new keyboard for it instead of just packing the lx700 keyboard with it. I wasn't a big fan of that keyboard when it first came out, but I guess I'm going to need to take a closer look. Hopefully all the buttons can be customizable like the mx duo board, since I don't need audio presets or advanced media controls (I converted most of the buttons on my current keyboard to mere internet hotkeys).

Ultimately I think I'm just going to wait it out and see if I can get in on a hot deal for this combo, and hope they don't release another new mouse/keyboard that I'm going to want.

Not as weird and as bad as my ~300$ Touchstream LP. Though I did need it to help my wrist.

A bad keyboard and mouse can make you sick of RSI. So, $150 invested now can save a bigger headache later.
Anyway, there are your money

I really think that all keyboards right now are pretty sh!tty quality. I'm on my damn computer for 8 hours a day - I wouldn't mind spending $150 on a GOOD keyboard.

I was thinking it'd be really neat to have a keyboard with no Windows keys, no media keys, and just a standard keyboard and numeric pad. It would be a slightly-curved design like the new Microsoft keyboard/mouse combo that would be in between a standard flat keyboard and a 'natural' style keyboard.

The keys could be made of aluminum or some other light, stiff material so that they wouldn't wiggle when pressed. Also, they should have an exact movement to them requiring much less force to push them and the distance should be decreased - more like a laptop keyboard.

First company that makes one of those gets my business.. even if the damn thing costs $150. I go to the store every few months hoping that finally some company came out with a high quality keyboard - but it never happens.

Also, a few more requirements:
- must have USB 2-port (or more) hub built-in so that mouse and other input can all be plugged in the keyboard for users like me with a USB switch (to control multiple computers)
- the keys could emit a slight glow - not too bright or make it adjustable.. if they glow, it should be only the letters/numbers/symbols that are translucent and thus lit
- NO WINDOWS KEYS!! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT
- NO MEDIA BUTTONS!! AGAIN, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT
- the keyboard should be as quiet as a laptop keyboard so that when I'm typing on my keyboard while I'm on the phone with my mom, she doesn't hear it and think I'm not paying attention to her - I can do two things at once, dammit.
- the keyboard should be compact - should take up as little deskspace as possible while remaining comfortable
- the keyboard should be separate from the mouse!!

Maybe I should fire up AutoCAD and design my own damn keyboard. I'm sure it will sell well to us geeks that care about a high-quality alternative to all this plastic wiggly sh!t.

And even more - no Power keys, installed just in the place where other keyboards keep the "Delete" button :(

I don't know about the keyboard, but I love my MX1000 mouse. If you don't mind a little heavier mouse, its the best I've used. It has a deep thumb groove I've heard some complain about, but I find it very comfortable.

I can't imagine a keyboard or mouse anywhere that would give me enough benefits to warrant the pair costing $150...

Media buttons suck. Real nerds use multiple keyboards (work/school/home) and don't learn shortcuts that only apply on one machine. Why should I get used to pushing the 'Windows Media Player' button on my keyboard at home if I don't have the same button in the same place at work?

Also, the media buttons cause the footprint of the keyboard to be larger and thus take up more space on my desk. Also, they have weird labels on them such as 'Dell.com support'. I can't remember the last time I went there.. why the hell do I need a whole button for it?

Keyboards need to have fewer buttons and be more compact. All these media buttons are for the few people left that can't type or memorize a real shortcut.
